"because i can read you like a book" has never been a more romantic phrase to meeeeeee. i finished it already! clown town had some truly depressing moments (if you know, you know) but mum and dad had riveting scenes that felt like mick herron was finally (yes, finally!) starting to address all the whatever we all feel exists between them. for this, it might be my second favourite of the series.

WELL YES #and honestly this was the first book that felt like it even interested mick herron to explore what that might look like #because i think the through-line of “because i can read you” was as deeply intimate and romantic as i could ever expect from mick tbh #also molly doran number one lambdish shipper?!? the way i always knew she would be actually #i know that standish knows that lamb would knock a drink out of her hands with zero hesitation #i think she's still scared to test it but i know she knows!!!#also standish openly weeping in front of lamb and lamb soldiering through it and comforting her in his own way???? a thing of beauty #the two of them momentarily switching places in the slough house hierarchy to disastrous results was SAD but also quite poignant #i loved the paragraph about her sending them out and jackson having to be the one agonizing over their safety for once #UGH!!!! MOM AND DAD!!!!!#i hope the show runs long enough we get to see this book made gary and saskia will no doubt DEVOUR #EDIT: wait i have to add more tags because i have more to say who is surprised?#i think we're being set up for standish to find out that she's part of lamb's flight fund and flee situation #which i've always headcanon'd is a thing that if he has to go into hiding that she's coming with him #but the fact that we have her wondering about what that would be for lamb and him commenting on another couple's plans HMMMMMMM #it's my hope that lamb and standish survive the final battle with diana even if slough house doesn't and for the first time i have hope
