Coptic Embroidery
I was working a perfectly beautiful French piece for All Soul’s/La Toussaint/Dusicky when I stumbled through some of Thérèse de Dillmont’s books she did for DMC. I wandered down the rabbit hole and now I’m working on a little side project.

These Coptic pieces are a bit deceptive. They don’t seem complex when you look at the pattern and then you get in the middle of it and next thing you know you are yanking stitches out because things aren’t going as expected.
I started with four strands of thread but wasn’t happy with the coverage so went back over with two more and continued working with six. I used four strands of the gold thread to do the accents. To me this is looking really messy but I’m trying to push through to learn the technique.
The last time I tried to do one of these Coptic pieces I adapted it to cross stitch and worked it Assissi style. I was really happy with it, but for some reason it never got finished and now I can’t figure out where I stored it.
I’m planning on using the little piece I’m working on now with the Michaelmas altar if I don’t give up in frustration.
I was happy to find a copy of the book scanned in on archive.org. It is making a world of difference as the scanned in pages are a higher quality than the ones above (that I was originally working with) and I can really zoom in.
