Today at http://psychodrivein.com It Stains the Sands Red (2017) With just some junk food, a few bottles of water, and a baggie of cocaine to keep her going, Molly and the zombie, who she affectionately nicknames Small Dick, or Smalls for short, cross the desert, encountering a few more bad dudes, the military, and a healthy dose of madness before the film slides into fairly comfortable territory with its conclusion. --- Read more of Paul's review at the link in our profile! #itstainsthesandsred #brittanyallen #colinminihan #stuartortiz #juanriedinger #zombies #zombies101
After the events of the first film, a film student becomes obsessed and makes his own visit. While the sequel got lower ratings on both IMDb & Rotten Tomatoes, I actually liked this one better (even though I just carried it around for like 2 wks before actually watching it.) Liked the meta beginning, and that the first one was an actual film within the world of the second one, and how that's the impetus for the second film (which, as ortiz & minihan said in an included interview, let them play with the behind-the-scenes-how-movies-are-made-and-effects-are-slight-of-hand aspect of both film in general and found footage movies specifically - even Alex's student film which i kinda wanna see them actually make now). Where the first one was almost all at, around or in the asylum, the scenes in this one at the party and in the dorm were a nice break and contrast to this group's time "on the inside". What if they'd released this one first? How weird/crazy would that've been? Like they could've released this second one first (which could still include the whole weird, random "coverup" storyline ending w/alex and jerry back in the studio) making it really play up the whole "nothing happened, it's fake, don't bother investigating" and referring to the original groups movie/footage; then release the original which could've included footage from both films/groups inside the asylum, and second group's ending in the hospital, to show that "holy shit, ahhh, shit really DID go down in there". If any of that made sense. in my head it did but idk. This one upped the mythology, Sean's 9 yr stay, the map of the changing layout (pretty cool) the building's ability to now interact with the outside world itself. Each movie they've written (if not directed) was better than the last. looking forward to more material from them. #ssmovieof2016 #horror #richardharmon #dylanplayfair #stephaniebennett #howielai #leannelapp #seanrogerson #benwilkerson writers: #StuartOrtiz #ColinMinihan #TheViciousBrothers director: #JohnPoliquin movie of 2016 number 11) #GraveEncounters2
A group from a ghost-hunting reality show spend a night in an abandoned mental hospital. So i watched the vicious brothers third film, Extraterrestrial, and am finally getting around to their other two. i liked Extraterrestrial better. (At least so far.) A matter of parts being cooler than the sum, i thought parts of this one were good, cool, or interesting (the weird time, the changing layout, that tub, the window on the 3rd(?) floor, the bed frame moving...) but it felt crowded, and what the hell's gonna happen in the second then - exactly the same thing but with different people? yawn. coulda/shoulda saved some for the second one, like do a bunch of hinting and implying - which, being a found footage film shouldn't be hard to do as you basically micromanage what the audience sees/hears anyway, and then give it away/go for broke in the second one. (if you knew/planned on making one) I have the second one in my queue, but unless it's amazing, Extraterrestrial is still the one i like best. #ssmovieof2016 #horror #mystery #BenWilkinson #SeanRogerson #AshleighGryzko #MerwinMondesir #JuanRiedinger #ShawnMcDonald #ArthurCorber #BobRathie #FredKeating #LuisJavier written and directed by #StuartOrtiz #ColinMinihan #TheViciousBrothers movie of 2016 number 10) #GraveEncounters
