Meet Koesha Rogers, a single mother who was forced out of their Crown Heights apartment her family has lived in since 1957. New York state law states that rent-stabilized tenants have the right of succession, meaning that their apartments can be passed along to family members, but due to gentrification many landlords are denying tenants their succession rights and harassing them into giving up apartments that have been in their families for generations. After the recent loss of her great-grandmother, both Koesha and her son are being displaced from 501 Lefferts Avenue because of the rampant gentrification in their neighborhood. They have until April 2018 to find a new place to live.
Rent stabilized tenants have Succession Rights which means they can add family members to the lease and keep apartments within their families. Koesha made this video because she wants displaced people to have a voice and not this happen to anyone else.
