U.S. reports about 300,000 more deaths than usual during pandemic: CDC

The CDC did not provide specific explanations for the excess deaths but said it expects the deaths to include those related directly or indirectly to COVID-19.

Excess deaths can be caused by untreated medical conditions, untreated because people are afraid of going to hospitals during a pandemic.

People have died needlessly because of COVID, if not technically from COVID.

The final tally will come from the insurance companies, who know exactly how many excess deaths there have been. It’s what they do for a living, after all.

This is a map of Georgia, America, where the total number of cases increased about 50% over 2 weeks. But from a quick glance at these two maps you'd never tell. It's only if you look at the scales at the bottom you'd realise.

This is pretty blatant really, but an awful lot of governments use these sorts of tactics to hide inconvenient data. Changing scales on graphs, switching to log scales, changing how data is gathered and so on

A School Reopens, and the Coronavirus Creeps In

As more schools abandon plans for in-person classes, one that opened in Indiana this week had to quarantine students within hours.

In news that surprises absolutely no-one.

This is concerning though: Anyone who was within six feet of the student for more than 15 minutes on Thursday was instructed to isolate themselves for two weeks, Mr. Olin said. He would not give a specific number of people who were affected at the school, but he said no teachers or staff members were identified as close contacts, and therefore none have been told to quarantine.

I would be very surprised if this was actually the case, and now potentially infected staff will still be going into the school building.
