THE VAMPIRE LESTAT E03 'TORONTO' + HERE WITH ME dir. Tim Burton
idk maybe its just me but one of the things I love about robins and vlads relationship (and Chloe too while she was friends with them) is that while they are definitely little outcasts and such they aren't actually socially hopeless (like some modern day "outcast" characters) nor are they bullied to a point that is boarder line illegal and if they wanted to could probably fit in, but they choose to stick together and recognize that their friend group is good enough and thats why their friendship is so deep.
like yeah they get picked on here and there but a lot of it comes from robins family which I think is more sibling ribbing than legit bullying or anything. for the most part they are just ignored. do they have more friends, no, but they arent social pariah either, like other shows tend to make their "outcast" characters. like they are fairly regular kids, a bit goofy cause yeah who wears a cape to school but others they're chill. and we see that a few times
in the episode of the blood test robin does a 180 in his presentation of himself. he dresses conventionally, becomes a bit more social, and attempts to play football and succeeds. any one of these things could've taken him from being the class "weirdo" to a more popular role among his peers, let alone all of them. but no he likes to be goth, he doesnt want to hide his infatuations with vampires, and he likes being friends with Vlad. like this wasnt a case where he tried to be popular and failed, HE ACTIVELY SUCCEEDED. he could've gone and been a footballer and had a larger group of friends and maybe even started to integrate his hobbies there. but no he said "nah I like what ive got". and obviously before Vlad he did struggle with loneliness and such but again he didnt think "hmm maybe I should change" no he wanted companionship, which we know he will get. now I will say robin was a bit more of an outcast from the start (like honey that cape is not helping you but I like the commitment), and likely wouldve had a harder time changing his image whereas Vlad just dove head deep into weird for funsies
the funny part about Vlad is his desperate need for normalization in the early series. sure being weird by breather standards is way more normal than vampirism but still. we see more moments where Vlad is charming, likely does well with his peers and teachers. and as a vampire he could just vampire anyone if he really wanted to. yet despite this he chose to stick with the friend he made during his first day in stokely. when he made the rugby team he could've just made more friends, but no he decided to stick with robin still. there are a few times he acknowledges hes robins only friend but he doesnt try to get out of that position. we see robin annoy him a few times with his vampire obsession and had Vlad made friends with literally anyone else it wouldn't have been a problem but Vlad said no thats my emotional support goth thank you very much. and lets be honest Vlad is hipocritcal with powers, I could see him using them to set up a "normal" life for him if he felt the need, but he doesnt cause he finds meaning and love (platonic or otherwise) in his friendship with robin and I love that
like these characters don't feel like the writers had no clue on what an unpopular kid is and made them just plain unlikeable, not they developed a friendship which highlights quality over quantity. that you don't need conventional popularity to make good connections. they are all besties fr.
Happy 16th Anniversary to Submarine!! 🌊

Young Dracula S3 (2011) X Being Human (2011)
Vlad gets to the new school, meets Adam, and the only reason he latches onto him is because he has Robin's face
