The Market Cross House aka Crooked House of Windsor was built in 1592 near the market square and was initially a butcher’s shop since this area used to be shambles. It stood straight for hundred years. In 1687 the house was demolished in order to make space for the Guildhall next door. But there was a dispute over the lot and the court ordered the council to rebuild the house. Well according to some sources the house was re-built in a hurry and without care using unseasoned wood which caused the house to buckle but it stood its ground nether the less becoming its signature!
