day 29, 30, & 31
Six thousand, three hundred, and thirty-three
‘Well,’ The Augur remarked, cleanly filling the darkness between the reservoir’s rough-hewn walls, ‘I believe there is work to do.’
‘That’s right.’
Metal screeched in contact with stone. Its crude din swelled past Augur’s helm and had their lips minutely curled with distaste as first steps audibly parted the water’s surface. They turned to the entrant with the least concern. Radiantly, a pair of pale eyes believed to stare them down, even whilst the arrival’s form, in comparison to theirs, would be, in just a moment, utterly shrouded in their shadow. Almost intrinsically, the being brought defiance with him; it hung in the air, potent. As he foolishly crept closer, char splintered the knuckles of his clenched fists. ‘There is work to do, exactly,’ he spat out, ‘you’ve got to die.’
Something about the approaching figure infused The Augur’s still lingering delight with unravelling bliss — his permeation with leaking hurt, misery and pain beautifully lapped at their tongue, causing rise to an indulgent grin. They had never seen such a loathsome display, not even in Mouthpiece; they had never seen a self-smothered Phoenix so ferociously claw at and blindly beat its stumps of ripped-out wings against its own cage. ‘Oh, why would that be?’ Ink still ghostly dripped down Augur’s talons. ‘What is it I have done that you have taken to reviling so quickly?’ Why, the self-absorbed shadow could not certainly have piqued this creature’s interest.
‘You bastard… you— you helped kill her, didn’t you. You killed her. You killed Lux!’ The figure repulsively reeled forward. ‘You killed her!’ Oh, the imploded radiance. Truly ravished. Its light had irrefutably blazed the brightest yet, chains buckling as they had struggled to constrict such seething brilliance — whoever they had been, their true purposing would undeniably yield The Wheel.
A colossal blade pummelled through the floor, shattering its tiles beyond recognition. Arching, straining, the foolish entrant’s own weapon powerfully crashed into the blade’s brandished mould of the Great Charter and, in no time, bursted. Its whetted splinters sprayed across Augur’s armour. As the adversary stared at the stumped hilt bearing the name Iram Noctis in his gold-oozing hands, their slitted eyes locked on a certain crystal glinting from the figure’s nape. A forked tongue escaped ahead pointed teeth. ‘Oh, I see.’ The Augur lifted the great blade through rock’s rupture. Yes, the Second would be pleased. ‘I see your purpose.’
