Jesus said that the path was narrow for a good reason. There is no need for the path that leads to God to be wide as there is only one way to find him and that is Jesus Christ. The path to Hell on the other hand will try and use any way it can to get you to enter it so it makes sense for it to be broad.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
