I just remembered a bedtime story my mom told me when I was a preteen. I was self-inserted into a Star Trek thing (at my request), and the only detail I remembered was that Cyrano Jones was trying to sell a new kind of "safe" tribble, which he said "eats like a bird", and whoever he was talking to snidely commented that "birds eat half their own weight".

That was the first time I'd ever encountered the phrase "eats like a bird." I was a bit confused, at first.
