According to Danger and Eggs creaator Shadi Petosky, the Mayor of chickenpaw Park is a trans woman. her reasoning for this decision was that she couldn't think of anyone more powerful than a trans woman of color. As a white transwoman who is active in the trans community, I cannot help but agree.
RIP Puny’s Tumblr
And thank you for all the good times
I love how human D.D. and Phillip are
And no this isn't a pun about our egg friend. In a very short time we watched these two grow and found so many quirks. D.D. was so much more than loving stunt girl, and Phillip more than smart safety egg. Phillip has panic attacks, he buys into conspiracy theories, and he's kind of embarrassed about his limbs not having bones. He also struggles with emotions and not having a family. D.D. is a ditz sometimes and it's one of the few things she's embarrassed about, she's also destructivly impulsive. She also has a very dark childhood with the death of her mother and her father's injury. She seems to get lonely easily, and is terrified of getting hurt like Roy. This is not to mention having her confidence destroyed by nearly dying due to asthma. They aren't perfect characters, they aren't perfect people, they just feel.. human, honest, real even.
I live in Reno, now if you live here you'll know that we have wild horses just East of town. Now every single time I go out there for work I see the horse sign and suddenly hear Phillip saying "horses are here". It's not even a memorable line, it's the delivery. Also by the rules of Phillipcon I'd be a bad Phillip, I'm severely allergic to horses.
In Pirate Gorgeous, prior to completely abandoning the script, D.D. has a line "A mermaid we'd all like to be good friends too" in regards to mermaid phillip. Most pirates don't want to be just friends with a Siren. Either Francesca babyproofed that line, or D.D. changed it. The way D.D. poorly delivers this line makes me think the latter. -just a weird thought
That "canon LGBT character of the day" blog used Zadie sometime last year. When will they get the uh..
Entire rest of the cast
The making of a friendship:
Phillip is an introvert, and he hates when people make fun of his egg shape (see pirate gorgeous). He probably needed a safe person as a kid, so introduce D.D. “blind to differences in people” Danger. She helps him as well since she’s an extrovert.
D.D. had a traumatic childhood, her mother died when she was young, and in Trix Blixon, D.D. describes that as the hardest time of her life. D.D. also states her father has been in a full body cast for years (Pete Peril). This means that her mother’s death and father/idol’s career ending crash happened close together. So who sticks by this really sad kid? Phillip, since he basically needs her for support.
Between them both you had two very lonely kids, both had only one parent, and that one parent is bedridden. Neither have siblings, the simply had each other. What they have goes beyond friendship, the truth is that the buddy system is some sort of Quasi-platonic relationship (a platonic life long commitment). (this is also why I complain about Scrambled Eggs, the ship D.D. x Phillip)
