I AM GROOT INFINITY COMIC (2023) #6
(The baby Groot pov is CRAZY in that one panel)
What if High Evolutionary got desperate enough to start experimenting on another raccoon kit, trying to recreate the result he got with Rocket. When the High Evolutionary got word of Rocket’s location, he didn’t kill the kit right away and only kept her alive for “just in case”.
In the scene where Rocket finds all the animals, he finds the cage that has the cybernetic enhanced kit. When he opens the cage the little kit scoots herself further into the cage, curls into a ball, and is looking at him terrified with tears in her eyes. Rocket honestly didn’t think his heart could break any further. He gently tries to coax her out, and she’s just about to take his hand, that’s when the High Evolutionary shows up.
Later, after all the experiments were saved, Rocket’s showing the little kit the zune that Peter left him. Rocket looks her with a smile thinking “She’s my daughter now”.
He names her Shocket.

I started these 9 months ago, but only now managed to finally hammer them into a presentable shape.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am enamored with Rocket's character arc in the lens of being a father. While paternity and what it means to be a good/bad father is probably only subtext in the movies on Rocket's part, it is an ever-present and powerful theme in Gunn's trilogy and I wanted to explore it more.
Also, we need to decide what happened to those baby raccoons after the fact.

from year two: growth ⋆˚✿˖°
“Will you still be here?” you ask him. There’s a cloud in your voice, soft and fluffy as the ones you’d used to see on Terra. It’s wispy and tattered, made of wistfulness and hope. If your eyes had been open, you might see Rocket turn his gaze up to you, quizzical and searching. “I should go out soon,” he admits. “See what I can find out.” You’d almost been able to hear him grimace. “Don’t really love bein’ frickin’ landlocked, anyway.” You feel the softness at the corners of your mouth twitch regretfully. “Sorry,” you say gently, and mean it. He doesn’t respond, but you feel him lean back on his own hands. You wonder if he’s looking at the sky too. “I’ll come back,” he offers after a minute. His voice is a sort of strangled rasp: uncertain, like he’s been trying to give you some scrap of consolation but doesn’t know how — doesn’t even fully believe you want it.

Inktober Day 7 - Very Loud
“Wrench.” Rocket demands. Groot looks around for a while, takes a duct tape roll and hands it to his expectant friend.
Rocket lets out a very loud sigh but tries to remain patient.
“This looks nothing like a wrench.” He clarifies. If Groot is sorry for his mistake, he doesn’t show any sign of it. Instead, he goes back to examine the tools scattered on the floor. He reaches for a screwdriver, then changes his mind and grasps a welder. He turns to Rocket, who’s glaring at him, and gently puts the welder back where he found it.
After a few minutes of failed attempts, Groot finally conquers the wrench.
“I am Groot?”
“Well, you are improving” Rocket concedes, with a hint of pride in his tone “took you less than last time.”
Last time, a week ago, when Rocket had to repair one of the secondary engines. An easy job that would have taken no more than half an hour. But Groot had supplicated him to help. He wanted to learn the way machines worked and how to fix them when they didn’t. He said he wanted to be like Rocket… Which ended up in Groot messing around for almost three hours before falling asleep by Rocket’s side, while the raccoonoid spent two more hours trying to keep the now-even-more-damaged-engine from exploding.
Since then, this is the first time Rocket lets Groot anywhere near his workplace. They agreed that the twig’s duties are limited to pass tools and observe Rocket at work.
“I am Groot.”
“Yeah, we’re almost done here.” Rocket confirms. He’s been thinking about making jetpacks for the team for a while now, and he’s finally found the time to put himself at work.
It doesn’t take long before he’s finished. Groot looks at the result of their combined efforts in awe.
“I am Groot!”
“Glad you like them.” Rocket smirks “And yes, you can go call the others now.”
“I am Groot?”
“Of course you can tell them you helped, just don’t make it sound like I didn’t do all the work!”
The little twig gives Rocket a big hug then hurries to the cockpit in search for the other Guardians.
Rocket smiles, knowing he’ll never find himself a more enthusiastic assistant.
