do you know what role had daisuke ishiwatari when he worked for SNK? we know he was one of the developers of gekka no kenshi (the last blade) series but I would like to know if he was an illustrator, a music composer or a character designer, like he is for the GG series. thanks in advance
Sorry to tell you this, but that’s a myth. The original Romance of the Bakumatsu: Swordsman of the Moonlight came out in 1997 published by SNK with it’s sequel (Last Blade 2) coming out in November of 1998. Daisuke Ishiwatari was working with ARC System Works since 1995 and earlier. (Guilty Gear: The Missing Link came out May 14th, 1998, 7 months before Last Blade 2 was released in Arcades).
Certainly “someone” worked on Last Blade 2 who was named “Daisuke”, but that could be anyone since no last name was given in the credits of that game (compared to Guilty Gear which gave Daisuke Ishiwatari’s full name at the time).
Typically Daisuke Ishiwatari works as an Illustrator and Music Composer (occasionally directing the games), so sprite work such as background design (which is what this “other Daisuke” in Last Blade 2 was credited for) is usually done by other members at ARC System Works (Daisuke was never credited for Guilty Gear’s stage designs either, even though he created the main story and characters).
And in case you were also wondering, Daisuke had nothing to do with the “First of the North Star” game they (ARCSys) later produced as well.
Aside from that, I seem to recall an older interview in which it was outright denied that Daisuke had any involvement with SNK as well… though the interview is already very old and I don’t recall the source and context (I believe it was an Aksys Games interview when they asked Daisuke questions on Guilty Gear 2 and Accent Core).
