It's taken 2 weeks and a few hiccups, but I have finally brought my brand new desktop PC up to speed. That included installing MS Flight Sim 2004 and migrating all of those add-ons over. A clean install is no small task when you essentially rebuild it with add-ons and mods!

It's been worth it though. Whereas before I would be lucky to get more than 15 fps on approach to an add-on airport with no AI, heavy use of DXT3 textures and only 2x FSAA and 4x AS Filtering, I can now crank it up to 100% downloaded AI, 32-bit textures, 4xHQ FSAA and 16x AS Filtering, all with a framerate that never dips below 30fps and averages about 50. It's a revelation.

So here's the Quality Wings Avro RJ100 wearing the livery of Dan-Air London.

Established in 1953 with a single aircraft, by the 1970's Dan-Air had become the largest independent airline in the country with a number of firsts to their name. It was the first British airline to operate the Boeing 727, the first in the world to operate the BAe-146 and also the first European airline to have a female jet captain. I flew on a Dan-Air flight twice (return trip) when I was either 5 or 6. I have little recollection of that one, but it must have been a Boeing 727 or BAC1-11 as I distinctly remember there being a set of self-deploying stairs in the rear of the plane.

Ultimately, the Dan-Air fleet featured too many different and incompatible aircraft, many of which were ageing to the point that maintenance and fuel efficiency made them enviable. They lacked the money to renew the fleet on newer models.
