Dan Nguyen offers Silk Road Sounds as DemonSlayer
Born and raised in Southern California, Dan ‘DemonSlayer’ Nguyen has been based in Saigon for several years now. After a relatively quiet period following his 2014 Maiden Tech EP for STYLSS, the producer and graffiti artist has recently resurfaced with his first new music since 2016’s effervescent collaboration with Portland’s EASTGHOST for the STYLSS Loves You – Volume 3 collaboration (listen below).
‘Nat Het Roi’ (below) is a distinctive musical mosaic that showcases DemonSlayer’s deft touch as a producer, with finely diced samples spread over a bass-heavy beat. The track features on the eclectic recent Silk Road Sounds album, the first of a new compilation series from the Hong Kong, Shanghai and London label Yeti Out. Described as “a sonic exchange of culture” that “pays homage to the different regions through innovative sampling”, it’s easy to see how Nguyen’s sound and internationalist outlook fits the bill.
Nguyen also recently appeared at this year’s Sónar Festival HK as part of a Yeti Out showcase alongside Delf and Young Queenz. We’re hoping that this recent flurry of activity means we’ll be hearing more fresh DemonSlayer tracks before long…
