Oh, Danneel, if I were you... or should I say, Jensen, IF I WERE YOU...

The change had been gradual.
A little more softness around her waist. Her favorite jeans fitting differently. The number on the scale creeping upward.
None of it should have mattered.
But lately, she couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Jensen noticed first.
She was standing in front of the bedroom mirror, tugging anxiously at the hem of her shirt, trying to convince herself that she was imagining how different she looked.
Danneel appeared in the doorway.
“Baby?”
She immediately dropped the shirt.
“Nothing.”
Danneel gave her a knowing look. “That didn’t look like nothing.”
Her eyes dropped to the floor.
“I’ve gained weight.”
Jensen, who had been walking down the hallway, stopped when he heard her voice.
He came closer, his expression softening.
“Hey…”
She shook her head quickly. “I know it’s stupid. I just—I don’t feel pretty anymore.”
Jensen’s face fell.
Danneel walked over and gently took her hands.
“Don’t call yourself stupid for having feelings.”
Her eyes became watery.
“I don’t know why you two would still want me when I look like this.”
Jensen immediately stepped closer.
“Look like what?”
She hesitated.
“Bigger.”
He gently shook his head.
“You’re still you.”
Danneel wrapped her arms around her from behind, resting her chin against her shoulder.
“And you’re still the woman we fell in love with.”
She sniffled.
“But my clothes—”
“Clothes are supposed to fit your body,” Danneel interrupted gently. “Your body isn’t supposed to hurt itself trying to fit clothes.”
That made her eyes fill with tears.
Jensen brushed one away with his thumb.
“You don’t have to earn being loved by staying a certain size.”
She looked between them.
“You really don’t care?”
Jensen smiled softly.
“I care that you’re hurting.”
Danneel kissed her cheek.
“And I care that you’re being cruel to yourself.”
She finally let herself lean into them.
Jensen wrapped his arms around her while Danneel held her close from the other side.
“You don’t have to love every part of yourself tonight,” Jensen murmured. “Just don’t hate yourself for changing.”
She closed her eyes.
For the first time in weeks, she allowed herself to breathe.
And surrounded by the two people who loved her most, the mirror suddenly didn’t seem quite so important.
