one would say they would put some luda flashbacks this season to parallel darkling creating the fold after her loss and alina bringing back mal with merzost, both paying price of their soul and losing a loved one, but nooo
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
His walk cuts a shadow across camp, dark, threatening. Promising. The Ravkan cavalry forms a line at his order. Swords are sharpened. Quivers are stocked. Whispers dog his steps.
They are not kind.
—witch—blight—Darkling—
Woven into those curses is an accusation. They call him monster under their breaths. It sickens him to his stomach, but that is what he needs to be. A dark-thing.
Wind buffets his coat to the side, onto a person keeping up with his gait.
“Tell me it will work out,” a woman’s voice calls to him.
“Luda,” he addresses, and his chest starts to hurt. “Of course it will.”

I could talk of Luda dying unjustly thus breaking the final straw causing Aleksander to create the Fold vs Mal dying willingly in order to help Alina destroy the Fold
I have heard that there are fanfics of Darklina that contain Luda slanders. I haven't seen any myself, but I thought it should be brought up because if there are, then that just bewilders me. Why bash on a woman Aleksander greatly cared about and in no way did anything to Alina? And it isn't something many want to read from Darklina fics anyways so what's the point? (Tbh I won't be surprised if the majority that did it are immature teenagers who haven't gotten some critical thinking skills yet)
I also haven't seen the Luda slander, but I don't read widely in fics. I don't see why it's there either. She's there for all of five minutes in the show and she's a great way to show that yes, Aleksander has loved and lost people before/the cost of Grisha oppression. We don't know a ton about her (which makes her great for fanfics. A lot of her traits are left up to author interpretation), but she's clearly an important person to him.
But there are a good deal of people (teens especially) who have this idea of 'you can only have one true love, which means if a character HAS been with anyone before, that love must be LESSER in some way'.
And that's just plain not true. A person can love multiple people, very deeply, in their lifetime. Sometimes, a SO dies and its tragic and it takes a while to move on but you find another person that helps you love again. Sometimes a person was perfect for a younger version of you but then you change and find someone different. Not someone better necessarily. Just someone who fits with you in that time. You will love multiple people in your life and that is GOOD. And especially for Aleksander who has lived centuries, it's just ridiculous to think he hasn't loved multiple people. There were probably others before Luda! Maybe even people since Luda as well! And that doesn't make any of those loves lesser, that's just how being an immortal works.
Leigh is guilty of this too by the way. She refuses to admit that Alina could love two people (Mal and Aleksander) and instead has to talk about how her love for Mal is purer and more righteous and 'don't worry Alina didn't really LOVE Aleksander it's fine'.
And like...she could have. She could have just loved two people and chosen one over the other. That's fine. You don't need a TRUE LOVE because even loves that are fated come down to CHOICE in the end.
This turned into a rant about the portrayal of love in the Grisha trilogy. But TLDR: Luda is a perfectly lovely character that a lot of fic writers are doing great things with. She's not a threat to Darklina because she exists in a wholly different time. And Aleksander is allowed to love multiple people. EVERYONE is. That's LIFE.

Is no one going to talk about the small, insignificant fact that
LUCY GRIFFITHS is playing the Darkling old flame in Ep7?
