WRI - Help Wanted
Hey everyone! Kaileo here reaching out to you all for a little bit of assistance.
As you all know, I am but one person when it comes to the Wattpad Reposters Spreadsheet. I also work full time and write my own fanfictions. What I’m reaching out for is a handful of people, no more than 2 or 3, who would be willing to help in updating the spreadsheet. I am able to find fics fairly easily, but there is a process involved with updating the spreadsheet, which is the following:
I sometimes have to search for the original author. Some often say they’re taken from a particular source, but they don’t leave a name or any other information. This leaves it to me to try and search, which can sometimes be very difficult.
I’m not always knowledgeable about every single fandom, so I don’t always recognize everything. I have to go by word of someone who submits something, or try to figure it out on my own. This is why there is a significant number of Naruto fics in the sheet, but not a lot from other fandoms. If you’re knowledgeable in something other than Naruto, it would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, a lot of the “fics” that are stolen/reposted are multiple fics in one book, so you often have to update one entry chapter-by-chapter (this is because they are commonly oneshots that are put into a single chapter.)
If you’re interested in assisting, please send me a message on this blog (not my main blog). Please let me know the following:
What fandoms you are best knowledgeable about.
Your other social(s) if you are not active on Tumblr (Instagram/Facebook preferred, as I am not on Twitter myself.)
Ideally, you should have a Wattpad account, I don’t mind if you register one to assist/search for other fics.
Ensure you have a Gmail account address that I can give editing permissions to for the sheet (you do not have to send this right away).
I’ll be honest, updating the sheet is tedious and boring work. If you’re not into that but still want to help, here’s some other ways you can help:
If you know or have contact with author(s) you see in the sheet, reach out to them! I know not everybody is on Tumblr, but they may be on other socials, and if you have a means to reach them, please do so! AO3/FFN aren’t always the best means to reach out, unfortunately.
Read and double-check on Wattpad! If you already read on Wattpad, this is super easy. If something looks familiar, try searching a couple of passages and see if you find it. If their usernames don’t match, submit it in the form and I’ll do a little more sleuthing to find out if they perhaps just have different usernames/etc.
Reblog, reblog, reblog! No, don’t just come here to like the post. REBLOG IT. Reblogging gets it TRUE exposure, and will allow it to reach a wider range of artists. Reblog it every week if you can.
Finally: please, please remember that it is not Wattpad’s fault as a platform for this happening. This purely has to do with its users; it is, in fact against Wattpad’s Terms of Service to repost content. However, without reports that come in from the original authors of the works, they can’t be removed. The DMCA notice is a legal document stating you own the work, and it’s illegal to submit false DMCA notices. They do this to prevent legitimate cross-posters from having their stuff taken down by an algorithm when they’re using more than one platform to promote their work. Imagine posting your content only to have it flagged because you also posted it somewhere else! It would be a nightmare!
