@baconcolaweek‘s Day 1 is Summer so I went with a trip to the beach!
Clear skies stretch to white clouds on the horizon and sunlight throws everything in HD. The expanse of water before him sparkles invitingly, warm sand under his feet a warning of the temperature to come, and the umbrella, cooler, and towels set up to his right. It’s a rare sight to behold, and on the first day of summer no less. However, there’s one view nature can't beat.
Edd wearing a small pair of swimming trunks, the fabric clinging to every curve as he walks away from the shore and back to their spot with a green plastic bucket filled with water in hand.
“Tord, you're drooling.”
Whoops.
“No, I'm not,” Tord protests, surreptitiously wiping away said drool.
Edd snickers, leans down to set his bucket on the ground and plops down in the shade of the umbrella. He beckons, “Stop being a creep and help me build a sand castle.”
Right, mind out of the gutter now, Tord thinks. He sits close by Edd’s side, knees bumping, and dutifully takes a red scoop. They build up a rectangular shape and four circular ones at the four corners for the foundation. Edd runs over to the shore with the bucket for more water as Tord works a few spires up and digs a moat around the base. The bucket’s set aside once its purpose is fulfilled and they add windows into the sculpture with their fingers. A thought occurs to Tord while they search around for seashells.
“Hey, how did you get Matt and Jehovah to stay home?”
Edd hums, mind still entirely on decorating, “I told Tom alcohol’s banned on this beach and that there are no mirrors in the restroom to Matt.”
A beat of silence passes as Tord attempts to visualize his normally truthful boyfriend lying to his friends’ faces.
“... Did you really?” It doesn’t hurt to confirm.
“Did I really say those things to a known alcoholic with a dozen hiding places on his person for his flask and a man with hand mirrors he could bring?” Edd grins, slow and mischievous.
Tord.exe is currently trying to restart. In the meantime, he awaits Edd’s response with bated breath.
“No, what I actually said is”—Edd pauses for dramatic effect despite having his audience wrapped around his finger—“we were going on a date!”
… He’s lucky he’s cute.
“Edd, why?” Tord asks, embarrassment coloring his cheeks.
He shrugs and chuckles. “Honesty is sometimes more funny than the best lie. Seriously, you should’ve seen Tom’s face.”
Tord can picture it; Tom spitting out whatever he’s just drank in shock, eyes white and mouth gaping. That image alone is enough for a giggle.
“I think I just fell deeper in love with you,” Tord says, adoration in his voice and a love-struck gaze aimed at Edd.
He gets sand flicked at him for his trouble, but Edd has a glowing blush on his face. He doesn’t protest to a picture when Tord digs out his phone from his bag. Tord counts it as a winning start to this year’s summer and happily looks forward to the next adventure.
Okay, so I was gonna type up my next Royai Scene (centric to today’s theme). But I just got back from a typing assignment and I’m exhausted! So I’ll upload that with (hopefully) a short piece I’ve had on the back-burner for awhile tomorrow, assuming something else doesn’t come up.
In the meantime, here’s a short (unedited) excerpt to my main contribution for this week I hope to have completed by Thursday to sate your curiosity!
Enjoy!
“What about you?”
Riza looked up…only to be greeted by the toned, muscular chest of her superior made visible by the blue bathrobe loosely tied around his body. It made her blush.
“Couldn’t sleep, either?”
Riza snapped out of her trance to meet the curious look on Roy’s face. Though, she swore she heard a slight concern in his tone.
“No, it’s not that,” she answered.
Silence fell over them.
“You wanna talk about it?” he asked.
Riza gasped, completely floored by his question. It wasn’t until she looked into his dark eyes, noticing the slight concern in them, that she relaxed and gave him a smile. She could never deny him anything.
“Sure.”
Roy gave her a smile, sending her heart a flutter. It’s a pity she didn’t get to see a genuine one from him more often, she thought.
She made her way to the couch, her Colonel following right behind her. She took a seat and so did Roy. Riza watched him place the glass down on the coffee table, unable to keep herself from staring at his chest. She couldn’t help it, though. His perfect abs, his flawless pecks. She wanted to pounce him and trail kisses all over his bare torso, and listen to him moan her name, maybe even go home with him and make sure no one would ever bother them again.
Yeah, that would be nice-
“You can take a picture, you know? It’ll last longer.”
Hearing that, Riza snapped out of it to see her Colonel, smirking at her impishly. Embarrassed, she looked away from him, still feeling her cheeks blushing.
“I don’t know what you mean,” she said.
He chuckled.
“Right…,” he replied. Riza frowned; she should’ve known he’d see right through her, he always did. “So what’s on your mind?”
A fic for the Reaper76 Week that starts today! This is pretty much my first ship week and I haven’t written any type of fanfiction in forever. Hopefully I’ll do the rest of the other days this week.
Gabriel groaned as he felt another wave of nausea hit him, his head throbbing in excruciating pain. This was only worsened as he turned his body on his right side, with the smallest of movement making him lightheaded and out of breath, his heart palpitating harshly against his chest.
He knew it would have been best to remain still and let the adverse effects from the many injections he had received earlier pass, which would lessen the agony he was in. Yet, even with how exhausted he was, Gabriel needed to assure himself on a worrying suspicion that had been nagging at him for what felt like hours. All he hoped for now was that the said suspicion had not become a reality.
“Thank God,” Gabriel murmured gruffly, returning to his supine position once he caught sight of a familiar blond resting on the medical bed next to his own. He was just so relieved that Jack had made it through the numerous injections just like he had, unlike the other soldiers that were currently participating in the program. Thankfully, with a few more weeks to go, it would not be long till Gabriel and Jack would be home free from this torture. Though it would be brief before the two would head to the battlefield, it was going to be worth it. Gabriel just hoped that they would make it through the rest of the program.
Hearing a weak sigh next to him, Gabriel turned his head quickly, shoving away the dizziness that came with it.
“Mornin’, boy scout,” he teased, which earned him a groan of annoyance from the blond next to him. “Having fun?”
“As fun as yesterday when they dosed me up with however many shots I got that I passed out?” Jack asked sarcastically, followed by laugh that was riddled with exhaustion. “Definitely.”
Gabriel could not help but let out a laugh as well. “Oh, really?”
“Yeah, really.” When Jack finally mustered the strength in turning his head to face him, Gabriel felt his heart ache examining the man’s features.
Of all his time getting to know Jack and developing a friendship with him, Gabriel had never seen Jack look so sickly. Of course, that was to be expected while in this program. Moreover, though Gabriel was holding up fine, he did not look so hot himself, with his skin feeling as if it were sizzling in an oven.
However, to Gabriel’s horror, Jack appeared to be near his deathbed.
The blond’s skin was ghost pale, eyes sunken and littered with dark bags underneath them, hair greasy and having lost its healthy sheen, and his cheeks no longer retaining their fullness. The only saving graces that Gabriel found were Jack’s warm smile towards him, especially with how ill he was, and sky-blue eyes still bright and filled with life.
Even though there were good signs of Jack pulling through, they did not outweigh the bad signs that seemed to be stacked against him.
With the odds of Jack not seeing the light of day, Gabriel was struck with the realization that the possibility of losing his friend was likely to happen at any moment. This situation was what he wanted to avoid. However, with multiple subjects having lost their lives during the program, Gabriel knew better than to just be ignorant towards the high chance that Jack may be one of them.
With only God on his side in hopes that Jack would make it through alongside him, Gabriel returned Jack’s warm smile with his own, trying to hide the guilt that was steadily eating at him in wanting to assure Jack that everything was going to be alright. Whether that was true or not, Gabriel did not know.
“You look awful,” Gabriel finally choked out, his smile unwavering in the anticipation that Jack would see it as a form of teasing and laugh. Which is what quickly happened after, earning Gabriel a soft chuckle from Jack, making the brunet relaxed as Jack’s laughter was music to his ears.
“You don’t look so hot either, Gabe,” Jack retorted, his smile turning into a slight smirk before returning.
“Hey, I caught that, boy scout,” he replied, referring to Jack’s smirk. Again, this earned him a laugh from the blond man.
When the laughter had died down once more, both men took in a calming breath and stared at one another in silence, distracting the two from the chaos that surrounded them and the pain that rattled both men to the core. Not like they had a choice, but they did not mind.
“Jack.” Breaking the silence after catching Jack beginning to fall asleep, Gabriel shifted his body so that he would lie on his stomach instead and raised his left arm towards Jack.
Without a second thought, Jack reached for Gabriel, his arm shaking as he lifted it upward and to the man beside him.
Though Jack’s movement was excruciatingly slow, Gabriel was patient and waited till the blond man’s trembling fingers rested onto his own. With that, the brunet reached further and took Jack’s hand, squeezing it tenderly in his hold.
Lifting his head up to face Jack, Gabriel’s dark, russet-brown eyes stared at him with an intensity that was foreign to the blond. It was not out of anger when compared to their first few encounters with one another, nor of calculation upon the several training simulations that both men had been put through before joining the program.
Unlike those situations, the intensity in the brunet’s eyes were a mixture of determination, fear, and regret, which were pulled together by an eerie calmness that radiated from him.
“You’re going to make this through, Jack,” Gabriel began, not letting down the intensity in his stare. “I swear on my own life you will.”
“Gabriel-.”
“Hey.” Gabriel hurriedly cut Jack off, dark irises not once faltering away from Jack’s person. “What did I just say?”
Letting out a sigh of defeat, Jack returned his head in facing upward, knowing the better option in this was to not protest. Even if he did, it would not lead to anything dramatic, just a stare off between the two men till one of them relented. For the most part, Gabriel was the winner in these stare offs.
Being met with silence, Gabriel took that as an answer. “That’s what I thought.”
Squeezing Jack’s hand once more, Gabriel huffed before hiding his face into his pillow, thinking over his words and praying them to be true.
Though, one thing was for sure: if Jack was going die, someone was going to pay.
