I first knew him as Hanguang-Jun. (But in fact, I had known him as a K-pop idol long before I realized that was him.)

His beauty? Undeniable.

But it’s his paradoxical personality that drew me in like a moth to light—the Cool Guy™ who is the cutest; the Tough Guy™ who is the softest; the Celebrity Superstar™ who is somehow so relatable.

Wang Yibo.

This is the first birthday I can truly call myself your admirer—and you really are so admirable.

I wish for you to be filled with joy and love. To remain untamed and as authentic as you’ve always been. As much as life allows.

WYB’s birthday letter was so beautiful and thoughtful. It made me think about how much growth it must have taken for him to carve out such a tranquil headspace for himself after all the rugged paths he’s walked.

This part of the poem above captures what I wish for WYB—and for all of us: don’t drown in the bad stuff, because it will eventually pass; and cherish the present moment, because even the good things will eventually change.
