Vatican strikes solar farm deal to become first carbon neutral state

A controversial radio site north of Rome is set to become a solar farm as the Vatican pushes its green transition.

"Pope Francis last year asked the Vatican to study developing the area into a vast #solarfarm, hoping to put into practice his preaching about the need to transition away from #fossilfuels and find clean, #carbonneutral energy sources.

Pope Leo XIV visited the site in June and affirmed that he intended to see Francis’ vision through."

Earth's carbon sinks are being eroded by climate change feedback loops

UN says booming solar, wind and other green energy hits global tipping point for even lower costs

The United Nations reports a global shift toward renewable energy, calling it a "positive tipping point."

“The fossil fuel age is flailing and failing,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in Tuesday morning speech unveiling the reports. “We are in the dawn of a new energy era. An era where cheap, clean, abundant energy powers a world rich in economic opportunity.”

“Just follow the money,” Guterres said, quoting the reports that showed last year there was $2 trillion in investment in green energy, which is about $800 billion more than in fossil fuels.
