Mildred Payne's Oracle of Black Enchantment *Blood Edition* (Review)

Hey lovelies, this post is long overdue but here it is! A huge thank you to a certain follower for this deck (they wish to remain anonymous, but you know who you are 💕).

About the deck

From the creator of Deviant Moon emerges this eerie 52 card oracle deck, cackling, shreiking and bringing mayhem with it. With a delightfully creepy origin story and some photos of Mildred and her coven, the deck is enjoyable and interesting from the moment you open it. The cardstock is thin and springy (which I personally prefer), and measures at about 3.75 inches x 6 inches. As for a guidebook, it comes with a link where you can download or print off it's little white book.

My thoughts

I absolutely adore this deck, and it's become one of my favorites very quickly. For myself, I've noticed that it feels very talkative and often when using it I get some brain chatter, but I don't really find it overwhelming. Each card is very detailed and expressive, so they all feel like they've got individual personalities. Since the guidebook isn't extensive and the cards are overflowing with symbolism, it's an excellent deck to implement more personal and intuitive interpretations.

Although some of the imagery is perverse or crude I rather adore it for its unabashed and often mischievous and cheeky personality. I'm fascinated with the occult woodblock art style- depictions of witch hunts, witchcraft, the dreamy and paranormal all throughout. It's full of devils, demons, spirits and creepiness just as much as it is cheek, wonder and magic. On that note, it's also a very useful deck for shadow work, self reflection, recovery and dealing with your own demons, as well as spirit work/communication. If you are going to use them for spirit work or communication I'd recommend you familiarize yourself with them first and set up some sort protection on them, so that no matter what card you pull with a spirit it wont be overwhelmingly upsetting to pull and they'll be safe from influence.

All in all, this is a fantastic deck to read with, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's drawn to it or curious.
