After I recently bought a card binder, I decided to decorate it a bit by painting the inside :D

I really like how this on turned out, but I still need to figure out what I wanna do for the outside ^^

The basement bedroom where Leo and Leilani will stay for the next year or two. A hand-me-down bassinet that all three siblings slept in, and note that Judith also saved all their toddler stuff, too. I'm telling you, she was waiting for this moment! A private entrance off the side of the house, and a window that gets a little natural light for about one hour a day when the sun is at just the right angle.

(second message attempt, not sure first posted) Exquisite taste in interiors! I have a hard to describe issue, but it’s driving me insane so here goes … in my living room I have a gorgeous wall of huge windows with a beautiful view of greenery. However. The wall opposite is a big boring blank white wall. I can’t add shelves or furniture because my dining table is placed pretty close to the wall, but also abhor gallery walls … how can I make it as beautiful and interesting as the wonderful windows?

My first instinct: giant framed wallpaper scene. You can do the whole wall (looks great) but I also really like when you make a border for it out of moulding so that it looks more like a giant piece of art, like this one. If you're renting, you can even do peel and stick.

Other ideas:

Wall of mirrors, either trimmed out or just the whole wall or bunches of rectangles, normal or antiqued (can you tell I'm really into mirrors right now, ever since I saw this article in WoI. Okay one more, how sick is this with the lighting and the picture rail, I'm obsessed with Adam Bray.)

Just trimmed out, either classic style or something more mod.

Okay this is kinda rogue, but what about a whole wall of pleated curtains? Adds a lot of texture, can visually warm up rooms where there's a lot of glass, easy to swap out for different looks for different seasons, v dramatic.

I know you don't like gallery walls, but what about like, two (or three, dimension depending) really big pieces of art? (Note, vintage stores are great for finding these kinds of things)

Perhaps a tapestry / fabric piece? Or if you want just texture, how cool would an antique lace runner look framed? (maybe consider building the frame yourself to keep costs reasonable)

Okay I know you said no shelves but what about like, very narrow shelves? Like, slightly wider than a glass shelves? Like the top of this built in bar width shelves. For styling, I would go thrifting and grab as much crystal and little silver bits as you can find and put it up there, possibly with some cool lighting underneath?

Having one of those moments this morning where I desperately want to be living in an apartment with my best friend; I get up first and put the coffee on, she gets up and sits on the couch with me. We just sit there in the sunlight, in total silence for a long time. We might talk a little about dinner. I look forward to eating her leftovers from the night before.

Christmas at the Corelli house, 20 years ago.

Well, exactly 19 years ago if we're gonna be picky, but 20 sounds better as a lovely round number.

TOOL'ed those garlands onto the fireplace. Now watch they're probably gonna catch fire and burn down the whole house and sims are gonna have bad moodlets for days! Merry Christmas, lol!

Perhaps too broad a question but I’ve moved into a new place and I don’t know where to begin with decorating. The actual features of the space are uninspiring, there’s some dark brown leather sofas I’m unsure of how to style etc, where do I start!

Hm. Okay so if you have no obvious architectural features to work with, then I would start with making some. I'm assuming this is a rental, so that means you'll have to use furniture. This got long so under the cut...

My absolute favorite thing to do with a meh space is make a wall of bookcases - Ikea Billy's in a variety of widths + an interesting combination of shelves (mix up the heights and mix glass and wood) can look amazing. Don't forget the lighting - buy the super thin wire down lights (from ikea or Amazon or elsewhere) and stick them in the top of each bookcase (you can slip the wire between the back and the frame), add lamps and spotlights actually in the bookcase (you'll have to cut holes in the back of the bookcases to get the plug through but an exacto knife will sort you out, just do your cutting before you attach the back). Put all the lights into one multi plug and put that into a smart plug and voila, you've got an amazing feature that you can pack up and take with you. Below is my old bookshelf wall, ignore the mess on the table.

Other ideas: get some statement furniture, like a coffee table or vintage sideboard or something and make that the feature. Set up the room so that piece is where your attention is drawn. You can also do a gallery wall - there's a million tutorials online but that's a really easy way to fill space and upgrade a bland area. If you have good windows, make them more of a statement with curtains - you can get reasonably priced ones from ikea and Etsy. Make sure to put the rod close to the ceiling and ideally get curtains long enough to touch the floor, it's an instant way to make your ceilings look higher. Do NOT cover the windows with the curtains, they should hang to the side to make the window appear larger.

But my overall, biggest piece of advice: to avoid the sad, made.com showroom effect, you've got to mix vintage and modern. Get out to auction houses, antique stores, car boot sales, Etsy, eBay, Facebook marketplace, etc and get hunting. This is by far the easiest and most versatile way to solve your problem - when your furniture has personality, it can do a lot of heavy lifting for bland features. Find a piece you love and let that inspire the space for you. For me, it was my French 1930s coffee table with the swan legs (an Etsy find). That set the tone for the whole room (1930s! Feminine! Frivolous!).
