5 Questions with Dev79 _____________________________ What motivates you? Sometimes I’m not sure, I wish motivation was a clear cut and tangible thing. But for me its often not. I’d say that raw passion is my main motivator, I love music and sound and I’m utterly driven to immerse myself in such. I pretty much sacrifice stable money and a ‘normal’ life, because raw passion drives me to do what I do. What's the best part of what you do? That inexplicable feeling when things click into place and everything is just “right” – whether in the studio and a song comes together and your face scrunches up and your shoulders are moving, or at a club with everyone wilin and you’re at one with the connection between the crowd, the music and yourself. “That feeling” is awesome and I think many musicians and artists live for those moments. Addicts chasing a high What most inspiring thing a listener of your music told you? Someone who is an up and coming DJ/producer now, told me that I was his first exposure to a wider array of electronic music years ago. That I really opened his eyes to a lot of sounds and he may not be on the path he is on if it wasn’t for me. It made me feel warm inside haha. In this often thankless and cold industry, its really nice to hear things like that, from both peers and fans. Theres a lot of small things that people tell me that help inspire me to keep motivated. Does a specific state of mind or mood generate your best work? Hmmm, good question. I think that “best” would be hard to say but frames of mind and mood definitely affect creative output. Art is typically an outlet for creative people so times of frustration, anger and sadness def fuel me to make tracks. The process helps release the negativity. But at the same time good moods elicit good work as well, if you have true passion its just about letting your inspirations take you somewhere and honing the raw creativity. What's next for yourself? Don’t stop, get it, get it! I just dropped a free download on Top Billin last week and I’ve got 2 more free dl’s coming this month from Seclusiasis and Forward Thinking Sounds. And that’s hot on the hells of the “Street Bass Anthems Vol 7’ compilation that Starkey and myself just presented last month. I’m working on 2 different EPs to drop this fall. On Tuesday I start a short US tour that I’m mad hype about and I have some other Fall tour plans that are coming together also. We’ve got a bunch of releases on Seclusiasis and Slit Jockey Records coming soon. Lots and lots of things are always on deck!
