If someone says they're going to solicit 10 people to support my Patreon at the $100 level for a year to get a new Devil's West novel out of me, is that support, or threat?
(either way, I have given them my blessing to solicit)

Brief Proof-of-Work...
The bartender did laugh then, a dry crackle of noise. “I like this one,” he said. “She smells of the wind."
Ok so I don't normally do book recommendations on here (or anywhere for that matter), but I have seen absolutely nothing about The Devil's West series by Laura Anne Gilman on any fan site anywhere and that is criminal.
The series is set in an alternate Wild West circa 1800. This place, called the Territory, is home to settlers and natives alike, with a healthy dose of magicians, demons, and the like. They're characterized differently than you'd expect, which was really refreshing.
The premise is that a young girl, Isobel nee Lacoyo Távora, grew up working in a saloon for the devil, who in this setting isn't so much evil as he is fae. He's got magic powers, protects the Territory (basically the land that became the Louisiana Purchase irl) from invaders and prevents wars breaking out between the settlers and the natives, and most importantly makes deals with people who want something they can't get via normal means. Once she reaches her majority, Isobel makes a Bargain with the devil and she ends up becoming his Left Hand, the dispenser of justice within the Territory. Her job is to now ride through the Territory, get to know the people, and set things right if someone has violated the devil's law. The books follow Isobel and her mentor Gabriel as they travel through the Territory righting wrongs.
I think what I like best about these books is the melding of American folklore traditions with Native American mythology. To me, these books really capture the mystery and magic of the wild west. The books are: Silver on the Road, The Cold Eye, and Red Waters Rising. I highly recommend them!!!

"I'd love to say that's a terrible idea, but it's likely a very good one. That doesn't mean I like it."
It’s Wednesday, so therefore it’s #BookQW!
This week's word is "break," and I've got a tease of something coming RSN...
(Yes, it is a Devil's West short story. No, it does not involve Isobel or Gabriel.)

The Cold Eye Review: Old West Wanderings
Last year about this time there was a spate of Old West fantasy up for grabs, and this year we get the sequels. Cold Eye is the second in the Devil’s West trilogy, which features a version of the West untouched by white imperial expansion. Instead, there’s the Devil, a mysterious...
There is one truth of power, Isobel Devil's Hand. And that is that there is no moderation, no easement, no gate to shut
