I am out in #California and visited Devils Golf Course at @deathvalleynps today! Despite its name, it is not an actual golf course. It is a large salt pan on the floor of Death Valley. It was named after a line in the 1934 @nationalparkservice guide book to Death Valley National Monument, which stated that "Only the devil could play golf" on its surface, due to a rough texture from the large halite salt crystal formations. Lake Manly once covered the valley to a depth of 30 feet. This is the Devil's Golf Course in Death Valley National Park. It lies near the northern end of Badwater Basin and in this area, the salt flats are eroded by wind and rain. The area is brown and craggy and hard to walk on. Apparently only the devil could play golf here. Badwater Basin and Devil's Golf Course. It feels really weird to be in the Badwater Basin looking up at a sea level sign 282 feet up above on the mountain above. . We drove in from Shoshone and spent two nights at Sunset Campground in the Furnace Creek Area.
