synopsis: planning on moving to england with your girlfriend didn't go exactly to plan, but you'll still be closer to her than munich.
warnings: fluff. angst if you blink. reader is implied to be non-german. manchester city and chelsea.
weeks before the euros came for sydney, you sat on the worn leather couch in your munich apartment.
the late afternoon sun spills through your window, casting long shadows across the hardwood floor. the air smells faintly of coffee and the lavender candle sydney always insists on lighting when she’s stressed.
you’ve noticed her lighting it a lot lately.
she’s been quiet, too, her usual chatter about training or the latest team gossip replaced by distracted nods and half-smiles.
you’ve been at bayern for four seasons now, and you’ve settled into munich like it’s a second home. you didn't even feel this comfort back in liga f.
it was because of your new friends, and sydney.
sydney is your girlfriend, your everything, and has been part of bayern since she was practically a kid. she’s the club’s sweetheart, a midfielder with a vision that puts coaches in aw and makes opponents scramble.
you’ve watched her grow up in these colors, even a long time ago when you were still just her opponent in the champions league.
wo years ago, your second season at bayern, sydney asked you out.
you've been happy ever since.
lately, syd's laugh has been rare, and her eyes carry a weight you can’t quite place. you’ve asked her what’s wrong, of course.
“nothing, liebe,” she’d say, brushing you off with a kiss on the forehead.
you know her too well.
something’s happening.
it’s a tuesday evening, and you’re sprawled on the couch, scrolling through your phone, when sydney walks in from training.
your foot is injured, so you're resting on a precaution.
sydney's cheeks are flushed from the hot air outside, her training kit still on, the red and white of bayern stuck against her skin. she drops her bag by the door and hesitates, her fingers fidgeting with the strap.
“can we talk?” she says, her voice soft but deliberate.
you sit up, setting your phone down.
“yeah, of course. what’s up?”
she doesn’t sit.
instead, she paces, her socked feet padding softly against the floor. you watch her, your heart picking up speed.
this isn’t her usual post-training debrief you both have at home sometimes.
“i got an offer,” she says finally, stopping to face you. syd's bright eyes are wide, nervous, but there’s a spark in them you haven’t seen in weeks.
“manchester city.”
your breath catches.
manchester city.
the words hang in the air. you know sydney’s been following the wsl for years, her laptop always open to city matches when bayern’s season slows here in german.
she’s talked about it in passing....how exciting it would be to play in england, to test herself in a new league.
you didn’t think it would happen so soon since sydney got a renewal here at bayern not too long ago.
“that’s… huge, syd,” you say, forcing a smile, “when did this happen?”
“a couple of weeks ago,” she admits, sitting down next to you now, her knee brushing yours.
“they’ve been scouting me for a while, and my agent got the call last month. i didn’t want to say anything until it was real, you know?”
you nod, trying to process.
“so, what’s the deal? are you… are you going?”
she bites her lip, her hands twisting together in her lap.
“i want to. it’s a big opportunity, y/n. a new challenge, a new league. i’ve been at bayern my whole life, and i love it, but…” she trails off, her eyes searching yours, “i’m scared.”
“scared of what?” you ask, your voice gentle.
you reach for her hand, lacing your fingers through hers.
syd's skin is warm.
“of leaving you,” she says, so quietly you almost miss it, “i don’t want to do this without you.”
your heart clenches.
you love her.
you’ve loved her since that first season at bayern, when she’d tease you for your terrible german and sneak you extra pretzels from the team buffet. you’ve built a life together here with movie nights and late-night drives through the bavarian countryside. don't forget about those stolen kisses in the locker room.
the thought of her leaving, of being apart, makes your chest ache.
“syd, you know long distance works for a lot of players,” you say, trying to sound reassuring, “we could make it work. you’d kill it at city, and i’d visit whenever i could.”
she shakes her head, her grip on your hand tightening.
“i don’t want that. i want to see you every day. i want to wake up with you, come home to you. i don’t want to be in manchester while you’re here, y/n. i love you too much for that.”
you’re caught off guard, your mind racing.
you hadn’t expected the intensity of her words, not the way her voice cracks with emotion. you’ve always known she loves you, but hearing it like this makes your throat tight.
“i love you too,” you say, your voice barely above a whisper, “but… what are you saying? you want me to come with you?”
she nods, her eyes glassy.
“i know it’s a lot to ask. you’re so happy here, y/n. you’ve made bayern your home, and i see how much you love it b-but i can’t imagine doing this without you.... i want us to be together.”
you lean back, your head spinning.
moving to manchester is not something you’ve ever considered. bayern’s been good to you....more than good.
you’re one of their reliable defenders, a key part of the backline.
your contract’s up at the end of the season, and you know the club’s been preparing a renewal offer. you’ve heard whispers from your agent about it, about how much they value you.
leaving would mean giving that up, starting over somewhere new.
“what about my career?” you ask, the words slipping out before you can stop them.
“syd from what I heard.... I don’t know if city needs a defender. they’ve got many. i’d probably be a bench player, and I think my agent would say something like how i'm too valuable for that. you know how hard i’ve worked to start here.”
sydney's face falls, and you immediately regret your tone.
“i know,” she says quickly, “i know how good you are, y/n. you’re incredible. i just… i thought maybe you could play defensive mid at manchester instead of fullback. you’ve done it before, and you’re so versatile.”
you shake your head, the reality sinking in.
“city doesn’t need a defensive mid either. they’re stacked, syd. i checked their roster a while ago before the group stage drawings... they don’t need someone like me.”
silence settles between you, suffocating.
sydney’s staring at the floor, her shoulders slumped. you hate this...hate seeing her like this, hate the way your words seem to have dimmed the spark in her eyes.
“i don’t want to hold you back,” you say softly, “you deserve this, syd. manchester city is your dream. you have to go.”
“not without you,” she says.
she looks up, her eyes locking onto yours, “i’m not going if it means losing you.”
you don’t know what to say since your heart’s telling you to follow her, to pack up your life and chase her to manchester but your head’s screaming about your career, about the years you’ve poured into bayern, about the stability you’ve fought for.
you’re about to tell her you need time to think when your phone buzzes on the coffee table.
it’s your agent.
you hesitate, then pick it up, glancing at sydney.
“one sec,” you murmur, stepping into the kitchen to take the call.
“y/n, good news,” your agent says, her voice bright.
“I know you've been suspicious about your partner going to the wsl for a while. manchester might not be interested but shelsea in london is. the new coach needs a versatile defender...someone who can play almost all defensive positions. they’ve been watching your games, and they think you’d be a perfect fit.”
you freeze, your grip tightening on the phone.
“chelsea? as in, shelsea chelsea?”
“yep,” she says, “they’re looking to win the tremble again and work their way up into getting a champions league. they want you, y/n. it’s not a done deal, but they’re serious. you interested?”
your mind races. chelsea. london.
it’s not manchester, but it’s closer to manchester than munich is.
you think of your national team teammates at chelsea. you’d have familiar faces and chelsea’s a top club that would take care of you while guaranteeing that you'd play on the highest stage.
it’s still a risk since they have great defenders too, you’d have to fight for your spot.
“let me think about it,” you say, your voice steady despite the mess in your head.
“can you send me the details?”
“already on their way,” your agent says, “let me know soon, yeah? this could be big in the market.”
you hang up and turn to find sydney standing in the doorway, her arms crossed.
“who was that?” she asks, her voice cautious.
“my agent,” you say, setting the phone down.
“I never told you this but I already heard from vivianne that you might've been coming to manchester. I contacted my agent and she said chelsea’s interested in me. syd, they need someone like me... fullback, center back, maybe defensive mid.”
syd's eyes widen in shock.
for a moment, neither of you speaks.
suddenly, she crosses the room in two quick strides and pulls you into a hug, her arms tight around you.
“y/n, that’s amazing,” she says, her voice muffled against your shoulder, “london? that’s… that’s so close to manchester.”
you laugh, a little shaky, and pull back to look at her.
“it’s not a done deal. and i’d have to fight for minutes if I move there. but… it’s an option to be closer to you. a real one.”
she cups your face in her hands, her thumbs brushing your cheeks.
“you’d do it? you’d come to england?”
“for you?” you say, your voice soft, “yeah, syd. i’d do anything for you.”
syd's cute smile is blinding and she kisses you, her lips warm and urgent against yours. it’s the kind of kiss that makes the world fade away.
when she pulls back, her forehead rests against yours, her breath warm on your skin.
“we’re going to be okay,” she whispers, “you and me, in england. we’ll figure it out together.”

warnings : nothing just fluff except for mentioning the euros final
"Y/N! Are you finally done?" Alessia shouts through the house for the third time, trying her best to stay patient while waiting downstairs for her fiancée.
"Babe, relax. We won’t be late; everything’s going to work out," I reassure her, descending the stairs to join her.
Four days ago marked one of the best days of our lives.
After two and a half years of dating, Alessia finally asked me to be her wife. And, of course, I said yes.
It all began during the Euros in 2022. Alessia and I couldn’t be more different when it comes to our nationalities. Keeping our relationship private was tough, especially when we faced each other in the final. But at least we knew one of us would be celebrating that night.
The day after the final was when we finally told our teammates about our relationship. Since that day, the rivalry between England and Germany hasn’t felt quite as intense (even though we all know Germany is the better team).
"We’re going to be late if you spend another hour deciding which shoes match your dress," Alessia says, her impatience bubbling over as she watches me.
"I'm done! What do you think of my outfit?" I ask, turning to face her. Alessia’s eyes widen as she takes in the sight of me.
"Wow," she breathes, her expression full of admiration.
I feel my cheeks warm at her reaction. Even after two and a half years of being showered with her compliments, I still haven’t learned how to process them without blushing.
---------
When we arrive at the little beach house, everything is perfectly decorated, but no one is waiting for us. It’s a stark contrast to Alessia’s prediction that we’d be late because I took “so long.”
I can’t help but feel grateful that we managed to arrange this small party to celebrate such a special milestone in our relationship. Playing in different countries makes it difficult to maintain anything resembling a normal relationship, so it means the world that we were able to bring both of us—and all our national teammates—together for this one celebration.
----
The clock struck exactly 3:00 PM when the first guests arrived. Unsurprisingly, it was Alessia’s best friends, Lotte and Ella. My heart swelled with love as I saw how many people cared about Alessia enough to travel all the way to Denmark to celebrate with us.
"Ella! Lotte! I’m so glad you’re here," I exclaimed, pulling them into a tight hug. In the beginning of our relationship, spending time with Alessia’s friends felt a bit awkward—especially since they played for England. But they turned out to be the sweetest people, and I’d never felt more welcomed.
"I can’t believe she finally asked you," Lotte teased, rolling her eyes. "She must have called me a thousand times, asking if it was too early, too late, or what your answer might be. Honestly, thank you for saying yes!"
I couldn’t help but laugh as Alessia came over, resting her hand gently on my back and joining in to greet her friends. Moments like this reminded me just how lucky I was to be surrounded by so much love.
I could hear two loud voices singing and laughing with Alessia, and I immediately knew who had just arrived.
"Y/N, go get your girls before Laura starts drinking all the champagne before nightfall," Alessia teased, flashing me a grin.
"My girls! There you are!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to greet them. "I’m so happy you both are here."
We were used to speaking English with each other, but it still felt amusing, given our shared history.
"I can’t believe my little girl is getting married to the blonde English striker," Sara said, her voice full of mock disbelief. "It’s still unbelievable how you kept it a secret. We all knew you had a crush on her—like, who didn’t? And then secretly meeting her after games... and now here we are. My lovebirds!"
Sara couldn’t stop smiling as she looked at Alessia, her words filled with warmth.
"Okay, Sara, enough is enough!" I interrupted, my cheeks turning crimson.
Alessia caught Sara’s eye and gave me a playful wink, which only made me blush harder.
-----
As time passed, more and more guests arrived, until all of our national teammates were finally here. My heart swelled with love as I watched Leah chatting animatedly with Lena and Mary exchanging tactics with Merle. After years of playing against each other, it felt surreal to see everyone coming together like one big family.
I wrapped my arm around Alessia, unable to stop myself from smiling. It was hard to believe how perfect my life felt in that moment. I was the luckiest woman alive, with the best fiancée by my side. (And let’s not forget—she won Arsenal's Goal and Player of the Month! How could I not feel proud?)
----
My eyes caught Ella as she stood up and cleared her throat, drawing everyone’s attention.
"When Alessia first told me she had a crush on Y/N, I already knew," she began with a soft smile. "Her eyes never lied when she looked at her. It didn’t matter if it was during tactical meetings while we analyzed other teams or when Y/N crossed our path on the way to different games. That same look was always there—an expression full of admiration."
Ella paused for a moment, her gaze shifting warmly between us. "I’ll save the big words for their wedding speech, but what I can already say is this: no one has ever made Alessia’s eyes sparkle the way you do. Thank you, Y/N, for making our Lessi the happiest girl on earth."
Ella fought back her tears, just like the rest of us. I smiled warmly at her, holding Alessia’s hand tightly in mine.
"She’s not the only one determined to make us all cry tonight," I said, glancing over at Laura. My heart immediately swelled with emotion. Laura wasn’t typically one for big words or grand displays of sentiment, so her standing up to speak meant the world to me.
"We didn’t win the Euros," Laura began, her voice steady yet filled with emotion, "but we won something even more special—new friendships. And most importantly, my best friend found the love of her life."
She paused, her gaze flicking between Alessia and me, a gentle smile gracing her face. "Whether it’s singing ‘Sweet Caroline’ in a karaoke bar or cheering for you at the Emirates, know that it’s always from the bottom of our hearts. Alessia, you are the first person I trust completely with Y/N’s heart, and I know it’s safe with you. Here’s to many more memories together. Cheers!"
Her words left the room in a silence filled with love and admiration before glasses clinked together in celebration. I couldn’t stop the tears from welling up as I squeezed Alessia’s hand, grateful beyond words for this moment.
I stood up, taking a moment to gather my thoughts before speaking on behalf of both of us.
"First of all, I need to thank our best friends for making us all cry and for finding the perfect words. You truly know how to touch our hearts. Thank you." I paused, looking around the room, feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
"And we also want to thank all of you for being here today. We know it’s no small feat to find a free spot in our busy schedules, so we really appreciate you making the effort."
I smiled and raised my glass. "Please, enjoy the day, and let’s not drink too much!"
The laughter that followed helped ease the nerves in my chest, and I couldn’t help but feel thankful for everyone here, sharing in this special moment with us.
----
Alessia had her arms wrapped tightly around my waist as we swayed slowly to one of our favorite songs. Despite Leah’s role in music, today’s playlist wasn’t half bad.
"Thank you for spending the rest of my life with me," Alessia whispered softly in my ear, her words sending a warmth feeling through me.
"It’s a pleasure to spend it with you," I replied, my voice shy as I glanced at her. "I hope you liked today."
She smiled at me, her expression full of comfort. "I loved it today."
