"I'll rise" — Dianita Graphite, metallic paint on paper, 5in x 8in
"When everything falls apart, I'll rise"
Familia — Dianita Acrylics and colored pencils on mixed media paper. 5in x 7in. I didn't grow up celebrating Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) as many other Mexican families. But I remember what we learned about our beautiful celebration. I'm not intending to explain to other people about every tiny detail about it as there are more accurate sources out there. From my experience, we always look forward to acquiring Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead?) from a local bakery in my hometown and gather together with family or friends to eat it with a cup of chocolate or milk. For this last piece, I wanted a cute gathering. Mischievous friends enjoying the delicious food the humans left in the decorated table. They're not sure what this is about, but what they know is that the bread is delicious and the milk is getting cold.
Diner de ce soir : shusis !!

"Innocence" — Dianita Graphite on paper (Moleskine) 5in x 7in When we shake all the world's opinions, their impressions of who we are and what we've become according to them, then we start finding ourselves. We own our beauty, our power and we bloom. We are able to embrace our innocence again and make it part of our world because it was ours from the beginning, before they convinced us we were too broken for it to be part of us any longer.
"You look prettier when you're silent" — Dianita
Graphite on moleskine paper 5in x 8in
A common phrase almost every women in my close circles have heard. In families, relationships, in workplaces and it's mistakenly perceived as an advice, because they "love you". I don't know other friends, but for me... That phrase dries me from the inside. It makes me feel powerless, it used to take away my power away from me until I stop believing in myself. It makes me feel that I'll explode as I'm containing everything I am. Interpreting "Silence" wasn't easy, it's very personal to me as I've learned to believe in my voice as time goes by. And watching others breaking from it has been humbling, it has taught me never to drown my voice again, not for anyone else.
