The Diving Reflex is actually used in many ERs as a way combat tachycardia, or an elevated heart rate. So if someone if having a minor heart attack or having a panic attack, and the healthcare professional is in dire need, he or she can submerge the patients face in cold water to decrease the heart rate. The Dive Reflex is an amazing life saver and is used in survival situations all the time.
