७ ऑक्टोबर २०२५ रोजी मला आकाशवाणी नागपूर येथे एका खास मुलाखतीसाठी आमंत्रित करण्यात आले होते. ही मुलाखत दिव्यांग व्यक्तींना त्यांच्या दैनंदिन आयुष्यात भेडसावणाऱ्या अडचणी, त्रास, आणि सामाजिक अडथळ्यां विषयी होती.
या संवादादरम्यान, मी खालील मुद्द्यांवर प्रकाश टाकला:
दिव्यांग व्यक्तींना शिक्षण, नोकरी, व वैद्यकीय सुविधांमध्ये येणाऱ्या अडचणी
सार्वजनिक ठिकाणी सुविधा नसणे (जसे की रॅम्प, विशेष शौचालये, अपंगांसाठी प्रवेशयोग्य वाहतूक)
शासकीय योजना असूनही त्यांची योग्य अंमलबजावणी न होणे
समाजात अजूनही जाणवणारे गैरसमज, दयाभावाऐवजी समजून घेण्याची गरज
दिव्यांग व्यक्तींना आत्मनिर्भर बनवण्यासाठी आवश्यक त्या कौशल्यांची गरज
माझे अनुभव आणि मत मांडण्याची संधी दिल्याबद्दल मी आकाशवाणी नागपूर व त्यांच्या संपूर्ण टीमचे मनःपूर्वक आभार मानतो.

Empowering the Differently-Abled: UDID Card Camp and Rights Advocacy in Nagpur

On September 22, 2025, Nagpur played host to a dedicated initiative aimed at empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) through a Universal DisabilityIdentity (UDID) card camp. Organized with the support of the Maharashtra government and local advocacy leaders, this initiative reflects an ongoing shift toward greater accessibility, inclusion, and rights-awareness for the differently-abled community.
This special camp, held at the medical premises of Hanuman Nagar, was designed to facilitate the registration and issuance of UDID cards—a critical document that enables PWDs to avail themselves of a wide range of government schemes and benefits. The event was organized to run from September 22 through early October, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM daily, offering ample opportunity for attendees to participate according to their schedule.
To ensure smooth processing, participants were asked to bring supporting documents: Aadhaar card, residence proof, two passport-size photographs, medical certificates denoting disability, and mobile numbers. These requirements were clearly communicated, helping to make the process efficient and accessible for even first-time applicants.
The driving force behind this initiative is a belief that no one should be denied their basic rights due to lack of awareness or bureaucratic hurdles. AmolDevaji Walke, a prominent member of the BJP Divyang Vikas Aaghadi and the Nagpur District Divyang Empowerment Committee, personally appealed to all eligible individuals to make the most of this opportunity: "It is my sincere request that every person with disabilities should surely take advantage of this camp to obtain their rightful handicap certificate."
Such camps play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between policy and actual support received at the grassroots. By proactively reaching out, government andcommunity leaders help ensure that administrative barriers do not stand in the way of empowerment.
Moreover, the use of hashtags like #DivyangEmpowerment, #DivyangRights, #MedicalCamp, and #AccessibleMaharashtra has amplified the call for awareness—making it easier for citizens, family members, and supporters to share accurate information across social platforms.
The ongoing efforts in Nagpur reflect a nationwide momentum, with Maharashtra emerging as a model for rights-based, inclusive development. The UDID card camp is not just about paperwork—it is a symbol of dignity and recognition for every individual, reminding us all of the importance of equal opportunities, accessible services, and respect for diversity in society.
