I love Pinterest! The fact that I can find all different kinds of DIY ideas and tutorials, is awesome for when I am in a creative slump or super stressed, which is how I have been lately. So to keep my sanity, I decided to look through Pinterest for a small and fun DIY project for tops. I wear a lot of tanks to work, mainly because I am running around set like a crazy person and it can get really hot under the studio lights and in the building :(
So as the title said, the DIY I found is how to make your own graphic tanks. To add some fun and creativity to the mix, I decided to create my own graphics, that have both geeky and fashion elements to them. I am just designing a whole bunch and then I will decide on which ones I am going to actually make.
So I tested the waters with one of my favorites :D

Moon Phase Shirt Tutorial
When thinking of how I wanted to make this shirt, I wanted it to be a really simple project. I've seen similar shirts with the moons printing on it, which looked great, but I wanted an easier (and cheap!) way to create it. This project turned out to be even more simple than I imagined! It took about 30 mins and only a few steps. I'm thinking next time I'll use a white tank with black moons. Enjoy!
Supplies: Black tank top, white and grey fabric paint, adhesive foam sheet. Pantry Supplies: scissors, sponge paint brush, ink pen, cup for tracing. Begin by tracing lines of circles onto the foam sheet. I used the rim of a cup, but you can use anything with a round base, depending on how big you want the moons to be. I suggest three circles across, filling the width of the foam. Next, draw and cut out a moon chart. You can find a template by simply googling "moon phases" and clicking "images". Next, lay the tank top flat and place a piece of cardboard inside the tank top so that the paint doesn't soak through. Remove the back of the foam template, place it onto the front of the tank top, and firmly press it down, securing it in place. With a sponge paint brush, apply shades of white and grey throughout the moons, giving it a splotchy look. Once it dries, remove the foam piece. I wanted four rows of moons, but the foam only had enough room for three rows. So for the last row, I removed the foam, cut off the top row, and turned it upside down so that the bottom row of moons would be going the opposite way like an actual moon chart. Hand wash it and let it air dry.
DIY: 5 min Tshirt Refashion
Supplies: Old Tshirt
Summer is not over yet and for this Florida girl the lovely warmth will stick around much longer. Try this quick tshirt refashion that took me about 5 minutes and perfect for those last few trips to the beach/pool.
Cute for band and game shirts too, just add a bandeau.
DIY below...
Cut sleeves off...Start a little bit lower than the sleeve, the lower you go the more you show. Use the left over sleeve to cut a string for the strap...like this here
Cut shoulder seams...If you have a vneck don't cut the collar. For a crew neck, you can cut the collar off.
Front: gradually cut the shoulder seams off starting from the sleeve as such.
Back: Cut as such so it forms a gradually line to the side seam. Tip: use the previous cut as a pattern for even sides.
Back: Fold the sides and then fold over the top part...sew along where the pin is...
Use a continuous string/chain to attach from one point through the loop and to the other point. You can use a safety pin on the end of the string to glide through the loop. Sew the strings in place where pins are. Finish edges accordingly.
I had some paint spilled on mine so what better way to fix then then a splash of Jacquard tie dying.
