06.09.18 - Vancouver, CA / Alan’s 29th Birthday / Richmond Night Market
WELCOME TO CANADA! 🇨🇦
(L to R) Jessica, Damon, Alan & Kat✌🏼
1st stop for the girls - Lao Er Squid BBQđź‘…
The boys chose....
PORK BELLY! Yuuuummmm!
The guys can eat..so after the pork belly they got teriyaki chicken
Takoyaki👍🏼- I (Kat) love anime, so it’s only natural that I go for something that I’ve always wanted to try after seeing it on so many shows!
Yeah duh, this too! #taiyaki
The Richmond Night Market in Vancouver, Canada is lit! If you’re a huge foodie like we are, then this place is definitely a must! The prices for the food were very reasonable and we spent a good a 2 hours just walking around and eating. With admission..we maybe spent $140 on food and drinks possibly less! (Not picture: deep fried ice cream, the 2nd serving of squid bbq, & strawberry mango smoothie)
Day 2 - Vancouver / Chinatown
Ket & Jessica
Fun Fact: last October, Damon proposed to Jessica here in Vancouver! He proposed to her during her birthday dinner, it was super cute!Â
Jessica - my bestie, aka the J in JKitsMangoTime
Birthday boy! My hubby turned 29 this year, he’s really happy trust me! I just told him to pose for me, LOL
I absolutely love and adore the building structures in Chinatown. I make a point in visiting every one (if the city/state has one). There’s just something about it’s history and culture that is so captivating. Plus not to mention all the yummy bakeries that surround the place!Â
This year for Alan’s 29th birthday we decided to take an overnight trip to Vancouver, CA. It’s a short 2-3 hour drive from Seattle, WA and depending on how well the dollar (USD) is doing, you can really get more bang for your buck there! We spent the first 3 hours exploring Metrotown Mall. The mall is HUGE! With over 300+ stores, the possibilities are endless especially if you love shopping. That was more for the girls, but the guys were absolutely champs about it!
We stayed at the River Rock Resort & Casino (where Damon proposed!) because it was only a short walk from the Night Market and we just really enjoyed our stay there last time. The rooms were clean, spacious and staff is accommodating and friendly. The only thing that bummed us out was how small the casino was. Pretty much all the tables and machines were taken and the turn over is very low, especially if the machine is paying out. So unfortunately we didn’t win much nor did we stay very long because the games we wanted to play were occupied. Nonetheless, we will definitely stay there again! The location is perfect and we were very comfortable!
The Richmond Night Market is only open from May - October, with operating hours of Friday to Sunday 7pm - 12pm. It’s an outdoor festival that focuses on Asian food and culture. You also get performances from different ethnic groups depending on what day you are there. General admission is $5 (CAD) & kids/toddlers get in for free, but you save more when you buy a fast pass. You pay $25 for a group of 6 and you literally skip the entrance line! We decided to form a 6 person group with this couple who was there with their toddler and when I tell you that Canadians are some of the nicest people in the world.. I am not kidding! They’re very polite and courteous - so different from their American counterparts. LOL! And yes we mean with us included #roadrage. But the night market was such a fun experience! It’s so different from the state fair and the food selection is insane! Just make sure you come hungry. They also have games and rides but you’re really there for the food. The only thing we didn’t find there was Filipino food. Which is kind of disappointing because 3 out of 4 were looking specifically for Filipino street food. Not a deal breaker though since we can just make it at home, but we really wanted to see other peoples take on it! We spent a total of 2 hours at the market and spent maybe $140, but we went back to our hotel happy and full. We can’t wait to go back and try all the other food that we didn’t get to eat!
Our last stop for our overnight trip is Chinatown. I personally love going to Chinatown! The structures, cultures and numerous surrounding bakeries are enough of a reason for me to visit it. We have one here in Washington but it’s certainly not as big as the one in Vancouver! We visited the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and marveled at the recreation of an ancient Chinese garden. Admission is free and there is metered street parking available nearby which makes it an optimal location to just park your car and explore. There are so many stores that it can be overwhelming but if you’re just there to look and walk around then you will enjoy it. Located in Chinatown is the the New Town Bakery. If you’re ever in the area we definitely recommend this place! Their pastries are sensational and it’s pretty affordable. Plus the service is quick!
Vancouver, Canada BC is gorgeous! I am so glad we live close enough to be able to drive there for mini getaways. The people are always nice and the vibe is just so chill. We unanimously agree that we can’t wait to go back and explore this great city some more! ✌🏼Â
What city/state/country would you like to visit?
