A World Without Down’s Syndrome
This Sally Philips documentary is brilliant, watch here: http://bbc.in/2dwamVo
I believe women should always have access to, the means to, and the right to an abortion, and I always will. This documentary discusses why women who believe their child will have Down’s Syndrome have such a high chance of terminating. Down’s Syndrome isn’t a disease, in the traditional sense. People with Down’s have one more chromosome than everyone else. In a world built for people with 46 chromosomes, of course those with 46 are more able. But people with Down’s Syndrome can live long, fulfilling lives-- they just do it differently.
Do what you want with your body, but think about whether Down’s Syndrome is really such a devastating diagnosis.
PS I’m not saying don’t terminate. I’m stating that if the only reason for termination is a chance your child will have Down’s Syndrome, is it really that bad?
