daaaaamn ‘inquisition’ and ‘in the pale moonlight’ work SO well as a two-parter…
‘inquisition’ asks, “are some ends worth any means?” and julian answers unequivocally, “NO”.
‘in the pale moonlight’ asks the same and sisko answers, “maybe not. but i can live with that.”
it’s especially powerful that sisko - our beloved and respected captain - directly takes on the role of sloan - a character we’ve been taught to distrust and even despise. sisko makes the exact same argument sloan makes: that somebody has to make the fucked up decisions, has to commit the cardinal sins, has to lie and cheat and murder, all in order to protect as many lives as possible. sisko is willing to be that person. that’s why he’s a captain, and julian is a doctor. julian has proven again and again that he would never be able to make those decisions.
just brilliant to place these two character studies right next to each other this way. i love this show.
