I'm trying out Dr. Romantic (Kim Hye Soo makes a guest appearance) and I live in the USA and I've been political for a long time and also pretty far left of US politics for a long time so I'm kind of always in this heightened state where I'm really open to wisdom in every form as it appears. I wasn't expecting that from a show with this super cringe name, but here we are.

The wisdom?

"Pay them back with your skills, not rage. Understand?"

The shows opens with an injustice. The injustice is caused by prioritizing a wealthy, powerful person over a working class person.

I also happen to have been a town hall for my local government just today. The main topic was TAX THE RICH to get enough revenue to cover budget shortfalls especially in education and healthcare. One guy stood up during public comment and said [paraphrased]:

I'm against taxing the rich. (the crowd started booing) I think we should criminalize the rich and their assets should be turned over to the state. (the crowd didn't start cheering, but I did lol)

He went on to say a lot more things I also agree with. So I was already thinking about how there always needs to be someone who can't be too stuck on what we can do, but what we should do. Can we tax the rich? It might finally be possible due to unfortunate circumstances around budget shortfalls. But what should we do? Should people hoarding wealth who don't fundamentally re-invest that in their communities be criminals? Yeah, I agree with that, honestly. Nobody needs to be a billionaire literally ever. A person should never hoard that much wealth. A Have like that creates millions of Have Nots. It isn't currently a legal crime, even though a lot of us can see that it is a crime against humanity. More people should be saying that we should criminalize the rich. Maybe getting taxed proportionately will suddenly seem more palatable, huh.

Anyway, back to the point. I know a lot of people are furious right now, but this doctor just quietly said you need to play the long game. We need to be really thoughtful and really smart about how we replace all the people who would rather be bribed by real estate lobbies than represent renters even though there are more renters. (for instance) There are only seven renters in our state House of Representatives. SEVEN. 7/98 = less than 10%. In Seattle, about 56% of housed people are renters.

I'm still at loose ends on what my skills are that could contribute to anything being a little more equitable, but I'm thinking about it.
