Speaking of which, while he feeds upon Elder Dragons for their natural bio-energy (and, to a degree, to keep the natural order of things), he absolutely will eat anything that he comes across. Humans included.
Vekem proclaims himself as a dedicated slayer of demons - his hatred for the human race so intense, he sees them as nothing more than something to either be enslaved or eradicated entirely. Spartans, on the other hand... he views them as big game to hunt. And the Master Chief would be his ultimate prize.
While the boi Atreus is capable of fending for himself, to some degree, thanks to what his Father has taught him - he is terrified of the possibility of losing Kratos entirely. He’s not ready to face the world on his own, especially with the coming of Ragnarok.
