Just heard about the Dublin Spire and I'm fascinated by it. Does it serve anything? I found no symbolism nor historical meaning. It is just a spike. It looks like something to impale a kaiju. Abd the only thing I could find really was that it has silly nicknames and was a lightsabber once.

so, me & my friends have been discussing replacements for the dublin spire. now, the existence of the dublin spire, while an inherent negative, is better than the column there beforehand, which celebrated a coloniser. BUT. they could have replaced the statue of a coloniser, with a statue of an anti-colonialist hero. there are too many irish martyrs to get a statue of any of em, and tbh they wouldnt have wanted one. THEREFORE I DO PROPOSE: a national referendum in the republic of ireland, for which cute animal they make a statue of, and then they replace the spire with a statue of a bunny rabbit. it is much better, and would be a statue of the people.

It’s like the lamest city monument in the world, it’s just a big metal spike in the middle of Dublin, and I love it.
