when he steps out for some fresh air, jae’s surprised to immediately bump into someone else, if only until he realizes who it is. of course he would be out here. talk about deja vu.  “fancy seeing you here,”  he says, in lieu of any kind of greeting, or apology for bumping into him. he cocks his head, smile sharp.  “what do you think? am i easier to look at with the mask on?”

“nice mask.”  honestly, it’s a wonder lillian made it this far without getting bored out of her mind tonight. it was about time she started having a little fun.  “i noticed you come in. taking a turn for the fashionably late, don’t you think?”

juniper could do this. as long as she doesn’t bump into any family or nl staff tonight, she can keep a light mood and pretend she isn’t quietly seething. she aims a serene smile at the masked member in front of her that she’s definitely not going to start a fight with.  “hey, stranger,”  she says,  “having fun? i’ve never been a fan of events like these, but i think the mystery is kind of fun.”  there. that was a good start, right?

it’s by pure luck that jae runs into her at all. he’s spent so much of this trip trying to corner her, though, that when he sees a flash of blonde, he whips a hand out to catch her by the wrist without even thinking. his brain, however, catches up quick and he locks onto ariel’s gaze with a glare.  “you.”  frustration wells up. she hasn’t even been subtle about avoiding him anymore.  “where do you think you’re going? i’ve been trying to talk to you.”

by design, juniper is away from any family member when all hell breaks loose. it’s pure instinct and adrenaline that moves her forward, knives she would never leave home without at the ready. this monster is fast, and worse, stronger than anything she’s ever seen. it’s tearing through everything in it’s path, including demigods. it’s all juniper can do to stay alive, but it’s beating the shit out of her without breaking stride. maybe if she had her magic, but... she ducks behind some debris to catch a breather and nearly collapses right into astrid.  “gods, what are you doing here?”  she shoves her sister behind her, catching astrid in her periphery because it’s the only thing she can afford.  “sing me a song, then get out of here, fast. i’ll cover your exit.”

lately nl parties have been inevitably bumming her out so juni’s taking advantage of the theme of mystery and hiding in plain sight. she’s gone for a look completely away from her own aesthetic in the hopes that she’ll blend into the crowd and no one will bother her. adding insult to injury, daphne’s forced her to accessorize with some nullifying bracelets because her magic has been going haywire lately and admin isn’t taking the risk at this event. as you might imagine, juniper isn’t too pleased about it.
