Description: In 2011, the Eastern Cougar was declared extinct, after no specimens were found since the 1930s. However, there have been sightings, as much as 10000 since the 1970s. But the debate is; are these surviving Eastern Cougars? Or are these just Western Cougars that found their way east?
This Gougar has certainly seen some things, not things they want to see again. The Depths of Darkness you could say, thank you SCarowinds.
This prompt was a bit of a tough one considering the lore and themes, it is dealing with a serial killer {albeit fictional} after all. So I chose to focus my design around the lore rather than just the State Line Slasher himself, and thus this Blackthorne Research Cougar was born! North Carolina Born and raised, they're here to observe the uncomfortable parts of this horrid tale to find the truth.
And the truth ain't pretty.

Officially declared extinct by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the eastern cougar is still believed by many to still roam Eastern North America. The endangered species was declared extinct in 2011, and claimed it has been since the 1930’s. The general population seems to think otherwise, and the Canadian federal government has not yet accepted its extinction.
It is claimed that since the 1960’s, over 10,000 sightings of cougars have taken place in the eastern United States. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has acknowledged some of the sightings of cougars in the east, but claims they are of western cougars wandering into the east or of escaped pets. Due to this creature being officially extinct but still being spotted by the general population, the Eastern Cougar is now officially a cryptid.
“There’s a degree of believability that’s not there with, say, a leprechaun. And nobody’s seeing monkeys or leopards. They’re seeing cougars. Are we all that off in our perceptions?”
