haven’t seen much press about this outside of KY, but the county i grew up in is experiencing some historically severe flooding. eastern kentucky isn’t really built to handle high floodwaters given its position in the foothills of appalachia, but with climate change we’re watching our infrastructure fail us at every turn. there have been four fatalities from this weekend’s floods so far, and like i said news coverage has been extremely sparse outside of the region. i know appalachia has experienced a cultural revival of sorts over the past couple years, but we’re still very much neglected by the federal government and american society at large. please consider lending a hand to one of those orgs so that the people of richmond and nicholasville can access essentials like food, clean water, and toiletries - every penny counts 🖤

Sunday afternoon 3.2 miles. Was not feeling it the entire way. Never hit my second wind. Uggggh all good I got through it. Sporting Kentucky shirt and safety belt

My husband and I traveled back to our hometown in eastern Kentucky to visit family while I’m on spring break. Coming back to his family’s house is always an explorative adventure. Every time we come back, his mother always has some new trinket, antique, or book to share with us. Coming back to Appalachia always means stories, games, and lying on the couch by the large window in the sitting room. I want it to mean more than that sometimes, though. It’s a strange feeling coming back—especially since my parents’ divorce. It’s a lot less like it used to be: a desire to set down roots, dig them deep like my ancestors did, and vow to never leave. Now, the daytime brings joy and hope and adventure, but the night brings anxiety, nostalgia, and an unshakeable restlessness. And I don’t know how to move past that. I love these mountains and we talked many times about making a life here, but those thoughts are quickly fading for both of us and it makes me sad. We have lived in our new city for almost 3 years now, but it still doesn’t feel like home. Anytime we come back to our hometown, my blood still rushes to meet the mountains as they rise from flat land. It feels unfair. I am trying to move on, but I can’t. These mountains still call to me and I know I will be glad to leave tomorrow, but I also know my heart will break again when the last mountain slopes into a never ending valley. And I am learning to cope, but the future is still uncertain. (Photos taken from my in-laws’ home. She’d never admit it in confidence, but she is a mountain granny woman, still doing her practice.)

What can you do? Smile

Catching back up. Hectic and aggravating week. Still getting things accomplished. Real bad water leak. Going to moms and dads to shower and do laundry. 

The city clerk told me when I walked in she expected to see me. After I answered questions she let me know. My water bill will be forwarded for reduction at the next council meeting. So happy and glad!

My line is undetectable. Mike is coming Tuesday or Wednesday to dig it up. I hand shoveled four holes in the spot where it should be with no luck. I have a good ideal where the leak is. It didn't come above ground. Just need to find the line.

Thinking of setting up a field shower but better not in the city limits @dannyinsandiego and @marine-core-strong something we all have done more than on an occasion or two lol.

Manic Monday

Six o clock I was just int he middle of a dream. Wishing I was kissing *Cupcake* by a crystal blue Italian stream. But I cant be late cuz I guess I wont get paid.

Off to physical therapy for mid evaluation. After getting a good progress report. I was escorted to the weight room and worked out lol. 

Home to eat then take mom to Lexington the to wound care specialist. 

Back home one hour push mowing. One hour weed eating. One hour riding lawn mowing in the dark. The lights work pretty well too!

These are the days you wish your bed was already made. Its just another manic Monday.

Busy and productive Friday

Up and off to the store to find some good deals in the meat department. 

Home to get push mower and weed eater. Two hours of fun at my other property.

Home to shower and physical therapy. Worked me over good. Arm is getting better.

Off to city hall.

Back to property and riding lawn mower. 

Home had a nice t bone and baked potato. Reduced @ 3.19 a pound.

Following an inmate transfer last Wednesday. We took time out to enjoy the view of far Eastern Ky. Beauty at its best!
