I'm so jealous of your edits. HOW DO YOU GET THEM TO BLEND SO SEEMLESSLY?
Is it witchcraft? (Joking).
Haha yes! It's absolutely witchcraft! But seriously, thank you so much, Hannah! I honestly just mess around until it feels right, and sometimes it works in my favor. 😂
Okay, when I make a ship manip, I start by choosing a main photo that sets the scene, usually featuring one half of the ship. Then I find a second image with the other character I ship them with. Then I cut that character out and blend them into the first image.
This picture of Captain Hook will be my main photo. I used my photo enhancement app to improve its clarity and HD quality. The app I use is called AI Photo Enhancer.
This shot of Ariel and Melody is my secondary photo. I love the pose they’re in and it just works perfectly! I ran it through the same enhancement app to boost the clarity and HD quality too.
I cut Ariel and Melody out of their background, which left me with a rough PNG/render. But I actually did this cutout using an app called Photo Studio.
Then I carefully take the character I cut out and shave off whatever the background remover didn't catch, and blend them into the first image, adjusting the lighting, color, and composition. I always use my Picsart app for this because it offers a lot of tools and features that really work well for me. You can see I made Hook and his background a little brighter in both lighting and color, while I darkened Ariel and Melody and added shading to help them blend in more believably.
And voilà! Hook and Ariel are a happy couple with their baby Melody.
As for my watermark in the top left corner, I used Canva. I really like the text fonts and effects it offers.
So that one was a relatively simple and easy manip. It probably took me about 20 minutes to make. But this next one I’m about to talk about was a complete BITCH to make.
And then I used my app called, AI Retouch–Remove Objects to get rid of Prince Phillip and Hook’s sword hilt (because swords and exes don’t belong in this AU). Then I cut Hook out of his background. Oh, and before I did all of that, I slapped my main and second photos onto transparent backgrounds using Picsart, just so I could dodge that huge-ass watermark. Now you can see Hook’s sword hilt is gone, and so is Prince Phillip, taking Aurora’s hand with him, lol.
I got Hook into the frame and shaved off part of his sleeve to make it look like it was tucked behind her hand, just enough to make it believable. I also cut out the fingers that were resting on Phillip’s arm and placed them onto Hook’s arm in a natural-looking position.
Then I cropped it and edited the lighting and shading to make certain details crisper. If you notice, Hook matches the lighting in the room. I also made both of them brighter and more colorful. It still didn’t render quite as well as I wanted, but I’m happy with it. After that, I uploaded it to Canva, scrolled through the available filter presets, and selected Belvedere to apply the effect to my image. I also added my little watermark.
And ta-da! Hook and Aurora are royalty at last~ 👑
I'm not sure how everyone else does their manips and edits, but this is how I do mine! I’m no expert, but I’ve come a long way since I first started. I hope that you or anyone else reading this found it at least somewhat helpful.
