Matt Rempe after elbowgate:
it was seven weeks yesterday since i hurt my elbow and i have decided that it has Officially Healed since today i was able to do 20+ bar muscle ups in the workout with no pain or weirdness at all. i was a bit nervous but they felt totally fine!
yesterday marked six weeks since i injured my elbow and i think i might be back..............
no pain for about two weeks
comfortably snatched up to 48 kg on monday
strict pull ups on tuesday
butterfly pull ups!!
am still feeling cautious but yesterday i did about 60 butterfly pull ups which were the movement i was most worried about and they all felt totally fine. there was no pain or movement restriction or anything of note. so i'm tentatively saying that i am ✨healed✨
okay it's been three weeks since #elbowgate
i was talking to a girl at the gym who nearly completely ruptured both her RCL and her UCL after slipping in a handstand walk a little while ago, because i wanted to know what rehab she did. i'm doing bicep curls and hammer curls, and she said that's basically what she did too (she did tricep stuff too but since i've been back pressing for a bit i figured i probably don't need to do that). but then had the funniest discussion where she was like, did you get a scan, and i was like, no i palpated myself and then "diagnosed" because i figured i'd be assigned the same rehab regardless and i knew it wasn't a complete rupture, and she asked if i was a physio and i was like nooooooo this is very much outside my scope of practice as an exercise scientist........
BUT another girl was like, oh i'm trained as a physio but i'm not practicing at the moment, and she basically ran me through a bunch of tests and said that since i'm not feeling any pain at the moment and i haven't for over a week, and since i don't have any instability (i've been doing handstands just fine), i'm probably good to try a pull up. she reckons it might not have even been a tear, it might have been an irritation of a ligament or tendon, but i should be good to try some loaded flexion. which is exciting but i'm also a little nervous to try.
anyway in unrelated news i made probably the most beautiful 67.5 kg clean & jerk of my life tonight.
elbow getting better. did 2x5 6kg bicep curls today which may have been 1kg too much but we live. barbell front rack is fine, cleans are fine, heavy straight arm carries are fine, dead hangs are fine. will wait another week or so before trying snatches and pull ups. very happy with how it's progressing considering how shockingly painful it was.
in GREAT elbow news, today i was able to do some ring rows in the workout. they were quite light rows but that's insane progress. two days ago i couldn't use the handbrake in my car with my left arm and today i was able to start back with some bent arm pulling. we'll see where this week takes me!
kettlebell swings today! 24kg, made sure i kept my arms straight. yay!! i feel like i'll be back to a barbell very soon!
