It still felt wrong to be invited to such celebrations.
Perhaps wrong was not quite the right way to describe it but words failed him and this was not the time to delve into such thoughts. Not that he hadn’t before; ever since walking out of the halls that he had walked for so long, only to find himself in the same lands that he had died trying to reach he had felt it. The feeling of his fingers brushing over an stitch that had been done wrongly. He had now heard of stories of full shelves of earth shifting, shaking the earth and the skies and leaving only behind a sharp step where once before the lands had stood plain.
Himsulem had been thankful even if he felt himself wrong. His people who had reached these lands recognised him but they were different in a way that he could not explain; in ways that they themselves could not understand. Their tongues rusted to the language that they had once known so well, known as well as their own hearts.
No one had told him that it was odd that he had these feelings still; first they had told him that it was surely just an aftermath of the trials and tribulations of his path there. That these feelings were simply a leftover of the trauma that had taken him to these lands. In truth, after so many millennia, so much time, Himsulem believed that it was a disease that he would not be truly ever be healed from.
Homesickness clung to his bones and gnawed at them until the patterns of their sharpened teeth were simply part of him too.
No one had told him but he could see it in their eyes. Their wounds too still raw from those that had left them for his homeland. They too had lost their sons and daughters though the hope that they should return was still clear in their eyes. In Himsulem’s too, though as he looked at the dark ocean and remembered her eyes, she doubted that it would truly ever become true.
It was that dark hair that had first attracted his attention; that and the eyes that watch him above the beautifully crafted chalice that she carried. Lady Aredhel had left the halls much like himself, he had been told, but only seen her sometimes. Disarmingly beautiful and distant like a star on the sky. Himsulem feels himself and the time around them freeze; half feeling watched by a hunter, half his natural discomfort at such events. Shifting his shoulders softly, he raises the chalice softly, taking a single sip from it before turning to walk outside.

Himsulem snorts, lowering the bow that he had been holding as well as the tension on his brow from the concentration at the target. He was not a bad shot, not at all. To be naturally gifted in martial arts was something that he had always relied on and perhaps one of the few things that he truly held onto when it came to pride. He lowers the instrument in a relaxed manner, however, to a trained eye, each step is done with caution that such a deadly weapon begets.
“For all of your wisdom, Lady Aredhel, I fear that you might be misguided in your trust. it is not humility that carries his words, but simple fact. Given the capabilities of what he had seen Aredhel be able to do, he knew that his own skills were not as good. It was fact, as capable of an archer he was he knew that he was not as good as many that had been raised and grown in these lands. Even with a sword there were many that could make him lose his footing. With a spear, however? None were a match.
He looks to the woman that stands in the shade and his hand, the one that had once been holding the arrow, lifts to his own eyes to shield them from the Sun above. A large smile growing in the sunlight “I can assure you I’m not as good as a shot as you.”
The bow is lifted once again and the string pulled with the arrow positioned in a way that would hit the target in the centre. With the target being still it was an easy fit to hit the mark; which he did. If pressed, he did not need the whole preparation to aim, it was more of a meditative motion than one of true need for hitting the target. That didn’t mean, however, that if the target was moving at top speed that he’d be able to hit his desired targets every time.
But he appreciated her trust.
“But I am appreciative that you humour me.”
galadriel has long since given up the pretense of reading — the book held between pale hands all but forgotten as her mind races, contingencies creating a tangled web within her mind’s eye. the more time passes, the more sure she is becoming of this plan of hers, but the weight in her chest seems to grow as well. she fears what it may cost her, but she equally dreads the possible cost of her inaction. her daughter must be kept out of harm’s way, at any cost.
a shuffle brings her attention to the doorway, and irissë is offered a weak smile. her cousin is a welcome sight, one that always serves as a balm to her aching heart, but the question she must ask sets her ill at ease. convincing irissë... is not something that she expects to accomplish easily.
“ your hunt, i trust it went well? ” she rises to meet the other woman, fingers idly brushing a stray leaf from her cloak — habit, she has always cared more for her appearance than irissë herself. a hand in hers leads her cousin to her seat by the fire, craving closeness even as she shuns the cold.
“ rissa. ” a breath. she steadies herself, resolve settling into the set of her shoulders. “ there is... something that i wish to ask of you. ” please. just this once, let me protect you. i can’t lose you as well.
