Here’s a puzzler

I have a new student who I thought was a non-native English speaker because she speaks with an accent. However, I learned from her teacher that she was, indeed, born in the U.S. and she is also Jewish. I only bring up the latter because I’m wondering if she was raised in a Yiddish-speaking household, which, if it’s the case, would technically make her a non-native English speaker like I was classified as a student, though I was born here.

Regardless, I don’t think her academics is going to be affected, aside from the usual hesitation over computer terminology, so I’m not concerned. I just thought this was interesting.

welp. i need to talk to an ell/esl/bilingual student (who learned english in school in the us because they spoke a different language at home) and i feel awkward asking people from my dorm who've i've only briefly ever chatted with

sooooooo is there anyone on tumblr willing to answer me a few questions? i don't have all the questions now, but in class on tuesday, we'll be discussing more questions to ask whoever we're interviewing (this assignment is due thursday at midnight)
