I just got this amazing (and expensive!) book. It is full of carefully explained and illustrated techniques, and that admonition that what makes it couture is that you master the techniques by practicing them. 

Some things are familiar from my cobbled-together background in textiles, but it’s just a wonderful reference to have it all in one place. And it has a visual index so one can browse thumbnails to pick an interesting technique to consider.
