Okay I bought baby bat an embark dna test anyone got any breed guesses? She’s very small like 20in at the withers and like 25lbs

This is what Mess is made of! She was originally bred as a 'bull arab' so these breeds aren't super surprising. She also has the Merle gene, which I suspected, and explains her eyes

Oops, I think I forgot to share this here: Warden's Embark results, essentially "We're a bit confused, but there's definitely Irish Wolfhound and Alaskan Malamute in there, along with a primitive breed or some sort??"

Per pedigree and Embark testing, Warden's dam is mostly Irish Wolfhound and Alaskan Malamute, with a bit of wolf and Siberian Husky. Definitely no Greenland Dog from that side of things despite Warden's chromosome breakdown showing "Greenland Dog" as coming from the same side as the IW.

Greenland Dogs and wolves have been known to interbreed. Embark seemed pretty confident it wasnt wolf content when I asked them, but if their GD samples have individuals with wolf outcrossing, it's not impossible, especially considering how close the "GD" percentage is to his theoretical wolf % via pedigree and dam line Embark results.

His sire is a Karelian Bear Dog, which shows on his chromosome breakdown as "supermutt" and "Alaskan Malamute".

Embark has offered to rerun his swab in the future once they get Karelian Bear Dog in the database.

reliable dog dna testing services? i’m a bit skeptical of ones that require a picture of the dog...

You’re right to be skeptical, the only ones I’ve seen that REQUIRE a picture also promise crazy quick results. Which just… are not possible if they’re running a thorough test and re-checking it. Sketchy. And guessing based off looks can be wildly inaccurate for mixes or even some pures.

Embark is the only one I’d recommend. They aren’t foolproof and are still actively refining their methods, but compared to say, Wisdom panel (not a scam but also not accurate), they’re far more reliable. They test a huge, huge number of markers and are actively adding more data with every dog they test. Plus, they test for a panel of diseases. I know people who found out key information like their dog being at risk for DM, MDR1, etc. As well as things like coat traits and coefficient of inbreeding. Embark’s researchers contribute to research too, and have published some groundbreaking papers.

Again, Embark isn’t perfect, and it’s expensive so WAIT FOR A SALE! But it’s the only one I’d recommend.

The co-owner of that last puppy also owns the brother of the dog Chai will be bred to. We’re still waiting on her future mate’s results, but his brother’s were eye-opening! He was supposed to be ¾ rough collie, ¼ border collie. But after sharing results and talking with his breeder, we learned she had always suspected the pedigree of the border collie grandma was not accurate, and that there were other breeds behind her.https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/gus124
