(None of this is meant aggressively. All your takes are 100% valid and I wish you a bugless house, also this got really long I apologize)
Tbh I think a lot of people who aggressively defend bugs the way they do in the bug killing discourse is just budding entomologists and people who keep bugs as pets who are tired of the generally socially acceptable reaction of disgust and threatening/suggesting death against their life passion or their pets.
As someone who used to have a phobia of bugs and still has one of arachnids but now wants to keep isopods, I get both sides. I think a lot of people who keep and study and are passionate about bugs who are so aggressive and exhausted still do try to keep compassion out for those of us with phobic reactions, it’s just tough sending a message or having discussion sometimes without it being twisted or seemingly like a generalization on this site
Oh absolutely, 100%. My first post i made on this topic was at 4:30am after I had just found a bug several inches from my face so I was not only pretty upset but also delirious. I totally understand that me and people who feel a lot of empathy for bugs just can't really mesh, and I respect them but I will also always be firm in my stance that I am just gonna kill the damn bug. I totally understand where they are coming from. At the same time, there are people who try and, even with good intentions come to people like me and explain that "taking the bug out is just easier and nicer!!!!!" And yknow after losing nights of sleep and not eating and just in general being in a horrible way because of insects, I also feel pretty strongly about putting my own health and sanity above a single bug.
And being a wildlife enthusiast myself, part of this dialogue is also within myself. I have to decide what is best for me, and it's not an easy a decision as I portray it to be.
