Should you trust MBTI compatibility?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE reading analyses of how different relationships between the types work out.

But when I see things like this:

In order to explain myself a bit, lets say we take two ENTPs. One is outgoing, confident and slightly crazy. The other is judgemental, independent and uncaring of other people’s opinions about them. They’re two completely different types of people, how come they both type as ENTPs?

Well, the answer to that is that contrary to popular belief, MBTI isn’t actually about your personality, it’s about how your mind functions.

The reason why these two ENTPs with such similar minds are so different is because they’re two different people. They’ve grown up in different environments, had different experiences, had different people they look up to, the list goes on.

A friend one ENTP may call a blessing, another ENTP may call toxic and a chore to be around. You CAN’T just highlight a blue box saying that INFJs and INTJs are the ideal match for ALL ENTPs because they’re not.

MBTI is great because it’s a decently reliable method that allows YOU to categorise who YOU get along with. However, to look at a table like the one shown above, done by some random individual who hasn’t even experienced the majority of those relationships, and judge whether or not you should pursue a relationship based on the coloured box they associated with that type is frankly ridiculous.

By all means, use the MBTI typing system to your advantage. Type your friends and try to find patterns in those who you get along with. For example, I’ve found that although I have a lot of NF friends, being around them too much drains me. It’s the NTs who I tend to like more genuinely. However, for many other ENTPs it’s the complete opposite. And that’s fine!

Hell, I have an ENFP friend who’s in a relationship with an ISFJ and even though on this compatibility chart there was a red square saying that that relationship wouldn’t work, those two individuals HAVE made it work. And honestly, it’s a brilliant relationship.

So to sum up, any type can get along with any type and any type can full out despise any type. Some people have done amazingly accurate analyses of how relationships between types play out and they can give you incredible insight making you scream YES THAT’S US!

However, charts like these do not. They just make you doubt yourself if the relationship you’re in does not have a blue box associated with it. So yeah, just do yourself a favour and don't bother with these compatibility charts because they help no one.

Types of People ENTPs Hate

Micromanagers

Micromanaging, when people feel the need to obsess and find out every little detail about you. They’ll freak when they find you were getting along well with that guy/girl at a party. They’ll message you about 50 times a day, trying to find out where you are every 5 seconds. They’ll ask all your friends about you, trying to get as many details of your personal life as they can. Insecure, overly needy and clingy, they obsess over the idea of you.

Yeah, if this is you, stop. It’s not cute, it’s freaky. ENTPs all around the world will run in the opposite direction.

People pleasers & attention seekers

So there’s this thing called dignity. Sure, I’ll charm people if I want my way. Sure, if I crave attention I’ll recall a crazy story and people will flock around. But the idea of stripping myself of my dignity and throwing myself at others in hopes they’ll accept me, it’s disgusting.

If you cry and throw an unnecessary fuss just to get people to pity you, be warned ENTPs will see through you as clear as day. We’ll have lost all our respect towards you and frankly, we won’t want anything to do with you.

Illogicalness & the inability to listen to reason

People with strong emotions are great, sometimes they are crazy inspiring. But when they’re so focused on their own emotions and views that they refuse to listen to any logic you present them with... it’s annoying.

Sometimes, when you sit down with these people, they rant about their opinion on a topic and the ENTP will be respectful and do their best to understand. Yet when you try to explain your view on the matter, they don’t care and don’t have the decency to at least listen. This is beyond irritating to the ENTP and these types of people aren’t going to be valued highly at all by the ENTP.

The ENTP Awkward Phase

The ENTP awkward phase is a time, normally in the teen years, where the naturally goofy and loveable ENTP, represses themselves in order to fit in. 

The problem with this is that ENTPs are well... naturally unique. Not everyone is like them which is why they're one of the rarer personalities. Yet they want to fit in somewhat and to do this, they start repressing their naturally unique personality. It could be their weirdness, their loudness, their talkative nature, their annoyingness or anything really. But repressing it feels awful and it can lead the ENTP to feeling really upset.

When in this phase, ENTPs may fit in, but can still come across as rather introverted or just awkward. Yet this frustrates the ENTP because they know that that isn't themselves at their best, and it feels like barely anyone knows what they're actually like.

It can be hard to break out of this phase and be your happy ENTP self again, but the key is to not care about others. Their expectations shouldn't be stopping you from being yourself. It doesn't matter if they think you're kind or not, what matters is your happiness and if being yourself upsets them, then that's too bad.

As an ENTP, your charm comes from your weird and loveable personality and by repressing it, you're no longer special. Once you can accept your personality you won't be acting or repressing yourself. Instead you'll enjoy being yourself and find that everyone else is naturally drawn to you when you can do that sincerely.

The Three ENTP Modes

Intuition

Outgoing, friendly, goofy and weird, everybody can’t help but love this version of you. You’re the one taking the spotlight, most likely with a crazy story that happened to you in the past. Although you’re loud, talkative and annoying, this is the side of your personality you love. So why don’t you keep it up all the time? Well… it’s exhausting.

You can only really act this way if you’re surrounded by people you like and are comfortable with. If your not around any familiar faces, most likely you’ll be more subsided. This leads us to the second ENTP mode.

Thinking

This mode is the analysing mode, the reason why you judge people so much and secretly dislike the majority of people.

Have you noticed in group conversations with people you don’t really know, you’re strangely subsided? Yup, that’s your thinking mode, trying to analyse the situation instead of partaking in it. Thinking is your introverted mode so instead of taking the spotlight in an unfamiliar group conversation, normally you’ll just add in a sarcastic or funny comment.

Feeling

This is your people pleasing mode. A good listener and aware of other people’s emotions. Sure, you dislike most people but you don’t like it when other people dislike you. That’s why you’ll go out of your way to be super nice to certain people.

Normally, these certain people are strangers that you’re trying to leave a good impression on, people you find interesting and want to be friends with or the bosses that you want to be hired by. However, this mode feels pretty unnatural when used all the time and being too nice and pleasing to other people can leave you emotionally drained.

ENTP and INTJ

I know everyone sees INTP and INTJ as the classic world domination dynamic duo, but let me introduce you to the true dynamic duo...... ENTP and INTJ. It's kind of a hard relationship explain sufficiently, but I'll do my best. ENTP is the wild, insane, mad scientist, that comes up with the half-baked, insane-but-amazing ideas. INTJ is the near perfect balance to that, the one who calms the insanity down a couple notches, keeps things organized, but is still down to destroy the continent. 1. Ideas ENTP loves to come up with ideas and tell them to INTJ, while INTJ disects the ideas flaws and points then out, and loves to improve on these ideas to make them better. Example: ENTP: Ok so what if our eye color changed based on our emotions INTJ: Dude that would be awesome ENTP: It could totally work too, I mean emotions are just chemical reactions so if you could direct those reactions..... INTJ: How? I can't see tubes working out And this can go on for days until they reach a solution or get bored of it. 2. Activity Balance ENTP, of course, is the adventurer, the 'lets go wandering around to see where this path goes. INTJ, is surprisingly enough down for this most of the time, as long as they think it's a reasonable feat. INTJ and ENTP's calculations can be off sometimes though ending in freezing their asses off an hours walk away from home(true story). On the flip side, INTJ keeps ENTP inside researching ideas, Pintresting, watching music videos, somehow without making ENTP bored at all. Also, INTJ is good at prescion and learning cool,skills, which in turn they teach to ENTP(I have an obsession with making flower crowns thanks to my INTJ). 3. Academic Balance School project? You bet your ass this duo is coming out with the coolest ideas yet(which other people overhear and steal sometimes but regardless). Time management can be their biggest problem as they can both be kinda lazy and procastinate a ridiculous amount. In the last week when everything did though, shit is on. ENTP does the research and mostly the academic side while INTJ uses their unlimited presicion and patience to make a beautiful project, that usually get an A, a B if they forgot some of the requirements(ENTP mostly lets be honest ). 4. Sarcasm/Insults that kill Sarcasm is a constant between these 2, but it doesn't offend them. This constant practicing though, gives them the skill to kill. ENTP and INTJ are both great at reading people and with that, they can see into people's fears quite easily. ENTP has the habit of going straight for the kill, destroying your ego and your confidence in one blow. INTJ is more like a snake however, and wraps around you, pissing you off until you are most vunerable, then they go in for the kill, making their insults more devastating(The more emotional you get the weaker you are, basically). 5. Deep conversations like it's nothing Honestly, this is one I had to be told about because I hadn't realized it was all that deep. Of course someone usually butts in and is like " Shit that deep" and INTJ and ENTP just "??????? The possible orgins of our species isn't that deep?" That's all I could think of right now, but I'll probably add more as I think of them.
