Entry #30 - The first of many
Thirtieth writing prompt [Frost] for FFXIV 30 Day Writing Challenge
Door hinges squeal as the apartment door is pushed open. Walking into the main living area of the small apartment the sound of banging and wood scraping over wood concerns Norimasa. “What is she doing now?” He grumbles and drops the bag of groceries on the bar top. Long legs carry him in only few strides through the apartment’s study and into the bow mage’s smoking room. Rendered speechless at the changes he sees all he can do is stand there and examine the place. Davina had removed everything but the fireplace and bookshelf. In turn she gave back to the room by putting a small bed against the walls where the windows are. A slender dresser rests catercorner in the northeast corner of the room.
Having just finished moving the dresser in the doctor shuffles over to the bed and flops face first into the mattress. Her back rises up and down while her breathing attempts to recover. “Tell me, honestly, what do you think?” Her words muffle against the soft blankets. Rolling over onto her left side she faces the door. Azure irises moving over the Au Ra’s typically expressionless face. It isn’t emotionless right now. Aw grips tight onto the Raen. She can see it in his piercing gaze.
Norimasa back peddles through the partition. His brief disappearance concerns her but he returns with a glass bottle filled with a top shelf bourbon. “I think you deserve a toast.” Nori comments. His hand tugging out the cork. Tipping over the bottle the dark amber fluid spills into a crystal glass. Moving a step forward he bends down to set the filled glass on the floorboards. Sipping off the bed Davina purposely falls onto the floor on her rump. Not one to turn down a nice drink slender fingers curl around the glass. Around her the temperature begins to cool. Underneath the caramel flesh small crystals of ice form and in tendrils of frost they creep over the glass. “I think taking care of this boy is good for you.” Words gently fall from his lips. “You’ve given up so much to keep your vow to his parents. I’ve seen you blossom from a selfish immature woman into this beautiful and strong adult capable of being someone’s mother.”
Coyly smirking Davina coos,” I think that is the first time you ever called me an adult.” Slowly sipping the strong beverage she watches as Norimasa sets the nearly full bottle in front of her. This was going to be her first glass of many.
