Hi, librarian here! Overdrive is a fabulous resource, but libraries are actually changed more for ebooks than your everyday consumer 99% of the time (in the USA anyway). I’m not sure how it works with self publishing/smashwords though, since it’s the publishing companies that usually put on stipulations (after jacked up prices) like after 30 check outs the library has to buy it again. Anyway! I purchase for our teen collection and I am interested in buying a copy of Shift for my library :)
According to the Smashwords site, they can’t charge more than what I manually put in for the book, (unless the book is priced under $1.99, and then its charged at that price)..... but I can, if I choose, have a higher price for Overdrive (and the other library services) (or a lower price too!). I can’t see anything about only having 30 checkouts at the moment, so it's possible that Smashwords to Overdrive doesn’t do that. I’ll keep looking.
(I miss-read some of it, sorry for the confusion, the reduced rate was my royalties reduced, not the price of the book.)
Yay! That makes me happy. I hope you enjoy Shift when it comes out.
